Daniel Carter: I don't recall if it was M2.5, M3 or M4 screws. I think ZWO has the size required on their EFW page on their website (I think it may have been M2.5 but im not 100% sure). I ordered a kit on amazon that had multiple lengths of the required size. The PA Indigo OAG needs some longer screws (maybe 10 mm?) to secure it to the EFW so the kit with multiple lengths worked well.
Ah great, I think you are correct , that M2.5 sounds familiar from my other ZWO EFWs. I have my share of (life saving or "sanity" saving) metric screw sets - will start there.
Thanks !
JT
It's m2.5. Mine needed a previse parts spacer between the oag and the fw so I could reach focus with the qhy600sbfl... so i cant recall the ideal length. I think the Indigo is 10mm, so probably 12 to 14mm length with no spacer.

PP has a pretty quick turn around right now. I couldn't reach focus with the guide camera with these pieces. I needed a spacer between the oag and efw for the guide cam to focus. It is a zwo174. EDIT- I removed the faceplate of the camera to get the filters closer to the main camera. This made the spacing more of a challenge for the guide cam. If you leave the faceplate on the front of the camera you'd be fine...

I should probably get to practicing with this imaging train on my large refractor before I move it to the Epsilon, Lots of new components for me to fiddle with, including my first time with the ASG and a QHY camera.

Chris White- Overcast Observatory:
Ashraf AbuSara: The other thing is, I spent a lot of time aligning the wholes. They definitely were not crooked, but there seemed to be a lot of play side to side in where you can tighten the screws, while still being straight. How are we sure exactly how centered the focuser is? If the focuser is slightly off center, does it affect the performance of the OTA, or is it all fixable with adjusting the tilt and collimation? As for tilt... DO NOT USE THE TILT PLATE ON THE FOCUSER. Lock it all the way down and forget it exists. It is not a useful feature and should not be there. You CANNOT fix image train tilt by tilting the focuser. If you have image train tilt (between the corrector and the sensor) you MUST fix that within the image train. Lock the tilt plate down on the focuser and forget it exists. It's interesting you should say that. That's the part they took out of the Hercules to make room for the rotator...and we didn't need it anyway.
The one thing I don't like about the Leo is the fact that it needs a separate control box. I recall the Hercules got rid of the need for the focus lynx?

if you have any questions, let me know. Wow I just looked up the EAT. Had no idea something like that existed! Crazy tool. I ordered the regular ASG photon cage. Can't wait to try it out.

if you have any questions, let me know. The Photon Cage - I'm seriously intrigued by the EAT (understatement) , if it goes commercial , I will likely try it out. And thanks re: questions - I'm sure I will , can't wait to get the whole Epsilon rig up and running on my Mach2. Finally invested in a Pod-S to house it . Looking forward to the upcoming year for sure!

Just so y'all know: replacing the Leo with the Hercules was easy-dang-peasy! Got to keep the Tak saddle piece, swapped out the tip/tilt plate for a non-adjustable dovetail, unscrewed the gold ring thingie, popped the Hercules on, and voila! Drivers all worked and I'm ready to go…when I get some time. I added the calculated 15mm extender, and we'll see if that puts me spot on or not (I have my old focus point from the Leo, so I'll start there. The thing is a beast and is a nice blue that matches my Pegasus Astro Advanced Power Box (which, as we all know, is a very important thing when accessorizing).

If you own the Optec Leo focuser along with the 160ED saddle and the camera side adapter, do you need to get the Herculers 160ED kit , or can you just get the base version? The base version is $500 cheaper.

If you can get that one piece by itself and not with the Hercules saddle (which is what I got), then you're good. If not, you'd have to buy the Hercules kit/saddle to get that one piece.

I went ahead and ordered one. I like the design a lot and I have many Optec Leo accessories for my AG Optical that should work with the Hercules too. I am probably going to be sending my AG Optical remotely too by the end of the year so it will be helpful whether I use it on the Epsilon or not.

Happy to report that the Pegasus Indigo fit the native f/3.3 corrector by the slimmest of margins. I have 3mm Chroma filters, so my backfocus needs to be 57.2mm. I am still missing an ASG photon cage. Currently my optical path from the corrector: Corrector > 5mm M54 spacer > 2mm Male M54 to Male M54 adapter > 4mm M54 Plate bolted > Pegasus Indigo OAG (10mm) > ZWO EFW 2" (20mm) > 6200mm (12.5mm), for a total backfocus of 53.5. I will be getting the ASG photon cage and once that is installed, it will add 3mm so it will be 56.5mm. I will then use the ASG Photon cage to get the last 0.7mm, or I will add 0.5 to the adapters upfront and just leave 0.2mm for the ASG. Will see. |

Ashraf AbuSara: This is where I am last I left it before the clouds rolled in. It took me a while to figure out which tilt adjuster on the ASG corresponded to which screw on the camera sensor, but to me it looks like the (Top right) in Hocus focus corresponded to the Bottom Left screw on my ASG looking at it from behind the OTA.
I think the tilt adjustments looks good, needs just very fine tuning, but to my eyes it looks like the backfocus is a bit off. I think I have to move it away from the OTA? HF analysis reads as if you are standing behind the camera looking at the corners. So if your Top right corresponds with bottom left... you might want to rotate your camera 180 degrees in the holder. That would make top right correspond with top right. (Honestly though, its probably not worth rotating it and messing up your tilt adjustments). I remember seeing that off-axis diffraction artifact ("v" shaped stars) getting better with additional spacing. Keep in mind that 0.05mm matters! So if you decide to mess with spacing, I'd recommend testing 0.1mm differences at a time. What you have looks nicely symmetrical though! Nice work!

It works great, much better than the native tube for the Pegasus, and did not make it bulkier so it fit with the f/3.3 corrector. Highly recommend it for anyone who gets the Pegasus Indigo OAG. Yea it is strange that it is like that because I thought the top of the sensor corresponds with the desiccant port. Maybe I got it wrong. Now that I know the orientation, I will just leave it as is. I am happy with how the camera/ EFW and OAG are oriented with the tube. Luckily, the ASG allows me to adjust the backfocus on the fly without having to mess with spacers. I can just use the backfocus adjustment on the back of it and move the sensor closer or farther It does affect my tilt a little bit when I do adjust it. Hoping for maybe some clear skies tonight to finish it up!

But yes, once you have it figured out you just want to leave it alone! The Photon Cage is a great product. Very nice for dialing in spacing, especially with superfast system like epsilon where you only want to make very small changes.
