Isn't it interesting that while our own images are costing us money (in a form or another) they are essentially worthless once they are published on the Web? I mean intrinsically worth nil?

The way I interpret this and other hobbies, is that we're not exchanging money for images: we're exchanging it for enjoyment. If you enjoy the time spent imaging and processing, that's where the money you spent in equipment is going to.

Image worth ≠ Equipment worth ≠ One's own worth

This is something we learn as photographers. I assume the same principle is taught in art schools. I understand people who haven't been taught that principle can feel protective about their work. I felt the same every time my work was unfavorably criticized by my professors when I was a photography student. Why? Because I had a background in sciences, I had spent an enormous amount of time on improving the technical aspects of my photographs, and some substantial money for purchasing decent optics. My photographs should have been perfect

That makes me really wondering, how this definition matches for all the remote service provider and images, where the data is actually bought from?

In my personal opinion, post-processing the data is a big part of the enjoyment of the process, so my definition holds.

Ok, we can agree that we disagree.

Of course! And I don't find it surprising that different people enjoy different parts of a process in different ways or varying degrees. This applies not only to astrophotography, but I suppose in most hobbies!

you are 100% right.
the sad thing with astrophotography is that there are many people that try to determine what is right or wrong within the hobby. I often have the feeling that parts of the community (if possible for them) wouldn't allow certain processing technics for example.
in my opinion that has to do with the overlaps of astronomy and photography.

I hate post processing. I love the process of setting up and acquiring data, especially across multiple nights. It is strange, the whole reason for doing this is to get good data for post processing! So to me, there is no enjoyment at all to buy data remotely. But again, this is a hobby, so whatever gives you personal satisfaction is totally fine.

I discussed today the case of Conor with a lawyer who specialises in intellectual property law.
He confirmed that by deliberately removing watermarks that identify IP ownership Conor has committed a criminal act.
So Conor if you read this, you are a self-confessed criminal.

He's not too bright cuz when you punch his email into Google, alot of personal information pops up.   If there's a legit case, he's pretty screwed.

True! His email, his business phone, his (I’m assuming) old business “floor and trim” Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc. is out there. His business location and everything. I don’t think he know that everything he’s said in emails and private messages is out there as well. A lawyer can easily reach him.

Sorry I haven't responded to all of you guys messages, I have been busy with life things and also spending time out under the stars!

Due to this incident, I have made both of my Instagram accounts private. I will not risk getting my images potentially stolen again as it really upset me as I have autism and I take pride in my images and look up to them when I am experiencing a low. I have also developed a new watermark (you can see it on my Astrobin PFP) that will be utilized on all of my images from this point forward, even if it means that my images don't get too much attention. I will also try and embed my copyright information into my images so whoever attempts to steal my images can be traced to determine who has used it.

It is disgusting that someone is robbing people of their awesome images and passing them off as their own...

It is also good that a lawyer has given their opinion on this situation, as I agree that deliberately cropping out watermarks breaches the copyright act.

I feel something should be done to this person as it is totally not ok to do this sort of thing. I once again thank @3SistersAstronomy and everyone else who has been affected by bringing this to my attention. I hope that there is a positive outcome for all of those involved, even if it's something as simple as an apology or something else.
