To those who justify this by saying imitation is the best form of flattery - if someone attempted to "imitate" an image by putting in the work to capture and process it, that is indeed a form of flattery and respect. But passing off someone else image as one's own is neither flattery nor respect, it is theft and no attempt should be made to call it something else.

This really grinds my gears. It's one thing to share someones image, and it's proper to at least credit the source…. but to completely claim it at your own work!!! Ripping off not one, but MANY photographers who worked hard on their productions…. this person deserves whatever gets thrown at him. The sad thing is with how social media works these days, nothing will come of it. We can complain all day, but they don't care.

Giovanni Paglioli: Many thanks Giovanni, much appreciated. have filed a report to Instagram, and I will come back here once I hear something. Yes its the internet, but yes it is an offence. Coming from an academic background, this sort of behaviour is unacceptable. I am not prepared to accept this is a "fact of life", nor I am prepared to restrict the utility of my images to the 99.9999% of people who respect and acknowledge IP. I would have thought AB has a good case to sue the individual, not least if their illegal actions are causing AB to lose subscriptions. Or at least get a lawyer to draft a note to all would be thieves which could be prominently displayed on the front page. Something like "All images here are the copyright of their owners. Any attempt to reproduce in any form without permission will be considered theft and dealt with appropriately." |

we are all just a bag of particles governed by the laws of physics, which means we have no free will. its not like the particles coursing though your brain stop when a question arises and asks you what you want to do and then continue on after you make a decision, thats not how it works.. instead everything is dictated by the particles in the physical world and there's no way for us to insert our selves into it to change anything, it feels as if we are the true authors of our on actions but that is an illusion. instead the real reality is that we are just a bag of particles governed by the nature of the physical world (quantum mechanics & general relativity) so really you shouldn't be mad at a me, instead you should blame the particles?.. blame phsycis, blame nature because thats the real root of this problem.. no one makes choices, the particles just follow the probability of physics and that is that.

Instagram is an intransparent company with a thin facade of support. What is there is an entirely automated system and action against an account is only taken if several infringements are reported. |

Legal actions should be taken against this person. Proof has already been established with multiple screenshots. Apart from Instagram being incompetent and their automated system, at least here there is already based legal grounds.

After reading what Conor has posted, he is a person seeking attention and wanting to be the so called best ( hence the image copying/infringments). His post is simply an excuse, and for him to even write this makes me think he knows exactly what he is doing. Remember he has cut out the watermarks that most of us put on our images, so he knows what he is doing. Im almost sure he has copied some of the statements in his post. He clearly has issues and for that,only he and his closest family can only resolve. I have a family member who simply thinks the world is against him, and tells constant lies to seek attention (he has Munchausen syndrome), I would imagine that Conor has a similiar problem. If this is the case it makes sense that he had chosen the images and imagery to copy and pass off as his own. The post clearly indicates that he is looking for sympathy. Sorry Conor you need to learn not to copy and use your own imagination like 99% off us do here on astrobin. Seek help is the only advice I can give. |

He preemptively blocked me without even stealing any of my images (as far as I know) or me calling him out. I did report him a while back, but instagrams process is like talking to a brick wall. I hope he gets banned from instagram and isn’t just temporarily disabling his account. The mentality of doing this in addition to buying verification and followers is crazy, but not surprising when seeing his responses. I really hope they get help. |

Definitely a well adjusted individual  I'd encourage people not to engage with trolls like this. Spread the word if you see someone stealing content, contact people directly and guide them to the reporting tool of the respective social media platform. If someone wants to take the legal route, the person in question doesn't seem particularely careful with their personal data, as Instagram Verified requires a government ID. Even Instagram becomes responsive if a legal letter comes in. |

This message is pass on some information what could be done if any of you have images stolen. My son is an Intellectual Property lawyer here in Toronto, they litigate cases here in Canada around IP misuse and theft. We often discuss interesting IP cases that come up, so I mentioned the problem we are having on AB. He made a couple of points in casual conversation, now filtered through me: so this is not official legal advice, but perhaps useful info anyway.It is possible to have anyone represent your interests, to represent you with Instagram or for a legal case, there just needs to be proper paperwork in place to show that this is so.It is certainly possible to file a legal suit against this fellow, which would then require Instagram to share his identity and information, so that he could be served. This assumes he did not lie and use fake ID on his account info. And it is possible to sue for damages, even though you may not have directly lost any money over this. I assume he is not making any money off his theft. But if he is, that would also be fair game for compensation obviously. In any event, he harmed the person who had the copyright, and damages could be awarded.All this would involve talking to a lawyer in your country. My son's firm, for example, would only take the case if a person involved lived in Canada. My suspicion is that if the perp received a letter from a lawyer to take down stolen image(s) or have himself sued it would lead him to go elsewhere for his nonsense.Rick
