I ask the experts here at Astrobin help regarding the following subtle problem I have not been able to solve since months.

I own two two IMX571 Touptek color cameras that work nicely. Except that only one of the two is producing RGB images with the red hues (specially H-alpha) toned down, like this and this one. Please note that I use the camera in conjunction with a short focal (a Sigma 135 mm f/1.8 Art lens), and that this is a generation 2 camera, the one with the detachable front flange, available since 2023.

Suspecting that my filters were responsible, I made tests with different brand clear filters, and even with no filter at all the problem persists.

I remain with 2 open variants
1. The original IR/UV glass is defective, and cuts red below H-alpha wavelenght
2. The camera or sensor is defective

Have you ever experienced such a problem?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Mau

The first production run of the Touptek IMX571 sensor window had either an AR coated window or a UV/IR cut window which cut Ha out. Obviously for astronomy purposes the latter is useless so they changed it in the second version of the camera. Yours shouldnt have the old Ha cutting filter as its the newer model, but sounds like they might have accidentally installed one of those old ones in yours.

You should definitely get in touch with Touptek and ask them to send you a replacement sensor window. Most likely that will solve the issue.

Thank you very much Oskari, I highly appreciate your answer!

The protective window defect is the most probable, once you have excluded the filter.
Anyway, it is hard to believe that a producer of astro cameras can make such a gross mistake!

Thanks again!

"it is hard to believe that a producer of astro cameras can make such a gross mistake!"…..No you can believe it for real! I had a tons of issues with my Touptek camera in the past 6 months.
It's not the same model (sensor IMX410c) : I changed 3 different cameras in 6 months, every camera I tried have different problems, but the last one wasn't able to catch any color!!
In my opinion and in my case I think it's a software/driver issue but I don't want to be anymore a beta tester so I swichted to Asi….

Ciao Massimiliano, thanks for your feedback! I still hope that in my case is a protective filter issue…

I hope i don't have an issue with my ToupTek color IMX571, i used it for clusters and the colors were not great while using IDAS D2, i never tried it again with another filters, but i think i did image it with Optolong UV/IR cut but i never looked at the results to verify, i made sure to buy an AR window, i bought it like 2-3 years ago, so i assume it is the first generation, i bought it for RGB stars, now i am thinking about second color for dual band filter i have although i already have two mono Touptek IMX571, so either i add third mono or just sacrifice having all ono and go with Ha+OIII from a color one and add missing signals from mono cameras [Lum + SII].

I have an update regarding my IMX571 ToupTek color camera Generation 2 (the one with the detachable flange in front) cutting the reds.

The reseller, Teleskop Express, that was really helpful, has determined that ToupTek mounted a defective UV/IR protective glass that was fully cutting the Ha.
When the reseller tried to change the defective glass, they discovered that the spare part had the same defect as the original.
Now I am waiting that an healthy part comes from China.

I confirm my utter disappointment.
The producer was surely aware of the problem and was not informing the resellers of it, and they were even not providing the resellers with the spare parts needed to fix the problem.
Not to mention that they should have actively recalled the defective cameras.

Mine is certainly 2G, because has the removable frontal flange. Therefore the problem is present in 2G cameras and related spare parts.
