Apprx. 2 days ago I uploaded a retouched image of the Markarjan chain with a part of the Virgo cluster and other galaxies. Standard plate-solving worked fine, but extended astrometry is active since 2 days. Is it normal plate-solving with many deep sky objects taking THAT long? I wanted to process this image: https://www.astrobin.com/shwi18/B/And tbh I´m not a pro with astrometry, but a simple beginner taking astrophotos with a simple DSLR and tele-lenses.

Still no result although I edited some of the settings and restarted again and again. Basic astrometry working fine, extended not….
In the meantime I uploaded a few retouched versions of other images which worked fine.
Seems, Markarjan and Virgo don´t want to be astrometered via me… ;-)

Upload the image on astrometry.net and see whether it solves it. By the look of it isn't the best rendering, too much black clipping and overall bad optics.

Hi @Joachim Stingl and @Vroobel, I took a look and the job is running to completion for your images. However, for those that you mentioned, it's simply failing due to star detection not working out. Please this FAQ entry here for an explanation: https://welcome.astrobin.com/faq#failed-plate-solveIn the last paragraph it mentions the option to upload a sample frame that might help with the solution.

Ok, thx, Salvatore. Unfortunately I don´t have FITS/XISF-files because I´m taking the shots with a DSLR/DSLM.
I tried converting a DNG into FITS - lets see, what happens when using this for plate-solving…..

I've been having trouble too. An image of the Coma cluster from six days ago still hasn't plate solved, and my newly uploaded IC2169 has been spinning for 2-hours. I even uploaded .XISF files to assist. Any idea what's going on?

Still 3 of my images are plate-solving:
Two wide-angle-shots since 3 days (areas around the Pleiades and around M 33) both JPGs (.FITS would be too large because of 250MB each)
And one since 5 days now - already uploaded a FITS-file and plate-solving with this one….

@Jason CoonThe image of the coma cluster is failing at Astrometry.net. You could try to change the settings to use the SExtractor star detection, it helps often! Your IC2169 failed to submit, I think due to nova.astrometry.net being available right at that time. I'll fix the code that does that to schedule an image to retry if that happens. I restarted it manually for now, and it did solve at astrometry.net. The PixInsight solution should follow suit, check your notifications to see if you get a solved/failed email! If you upload a XISF file to assist, that's only relevant to the PixInsight plate-solution, that happens at a second stage after the Astrometry.net has finished. PixInsight cannot do a blind solve at the moment, unfortunately. @Joachim StinglThe Pleiades wide-field actually solved with PixInsight, but apparently the annotations generation failed. I just restarted it. Generally, you can also restart a job yourself or change the settings using the Edit menu. I'll be adding more detailed information about the status of a plate-solving job on the page soon! Thanks, Salvatore

Hmm…haven't noticed a problem with AB's plate solving. PI's ImageSolver process on the other hand has been giving me problems recently.

Hi @Joachim Stingl, looking into it. Referring to the two links you posted above, seems like the first one crashed PixInsight, and the second one failed. I made the PixInsight server bigger and I'm trying again.
