image.jpgHi all,

A quick post about something new.   Nightfall  Astro rings for the sigma art 85mm.

i think I was the first set they shipped globally.   So I thought I’d post a first impression.  As virtually nobody else will have seen these.

firstly these were paid for with my own hard earned cash.   I’m not getting paid in anyway for this.

first impressions are very good.    I’ve got the Astrodymium rings on my samyang 135mm these nightfall rings are very much up to the same standard.  Dan at nightfall was also very helpful in responding to a few questions about how to install the rings, image.jpg

they fit like a glove on my sigma art 85mm HSM Nikon fit lens.   I believe they fit the same for the canon EF.

they do come with riser blocks,  I chose to pair the rings with a Losmandy dovetail and left out the risers.

as per the photos the rings can support and Asiair,   EAF and Guide scope dovetail.

with the Asiair riding on top the whole rig wil fit into a Peli 1450 case with the finder dovetail base removed.

It’s not yet seen first light.   My plan is to run this wide open at f1.4.   The imaging corners are always a challenge at fast F so I’m purposefully pairing this with a small sensor and small pixels,   So the whole sensor is pretty much in the center of the image circle and will hopefully be pin sharp,    We will see how it turn out.  Even with the small sensor it will grab an andromeda sized chunk of sky.   So a nice field of view for a lot of things. And blazing fast at F1.4.   Hopefully grabbing data fast to make the best use of very limited uk clear sky.

I hope this is useful.
