Hello my name is Stephen, I am very interested in purchasing the RedCat 51 + AM3 “bundle” From the official William optics Website, which is located in Taiwan. The shipping is free if over $500 but they mentioned that if there are any Custom or tariff charges, I will have to pay for those extra before I would receive the delivery. I have looked all over the Internet on other forums and US customs calculators, and have not really received any good or solid information on what I should expect. Basically, just trying to make sure that the money I would be saving from purchasing the “bundle” I’m not going to have to pay in extra custom fees. If anyone has any info that may help I would greatly appreciate it thank you very much and clear skies.

I foolishly bought my WO FLT91 w/flattener from their site when places here were out. I got hit with a ~ $100 charge from FedEx (that FedEx had already paid) after I received the scope.

They didn't ask if I wanted to pay it. They just assumed that since I was buying overseas that I knew that it would be subject to tariffs .  Had I known, I would've canceled the order because I had paid full MSRP and got hit with the tariff over that.

On their website, they clearly say that the purchaser would be responsible for any tariffs, but why sell it at MSRP if you know that it's going to be subject to tariffs when you import it?

I can't speak for the States but here in the UK and Europe the seller must declare the value of the package on the box, so 99 times out of a hundred, it'll get stopped by customs, taxes and charges applied and then the shipping company will add their own handling change.

Some companies offer a delivery service where they pre-pay the customs charges, but then that eats into the perceived saving you're making.

Maybe not everyone is aware but this is not something new. If you travel abroad you are subject to pay “duty” on purchases made in other countries unless you are able to purchase the item from a “duty free” shop at the various international airports or ports of entry.
I used to travel internationally for business. Several years ago, one of my colleagues purchased a “knock off” Rolex for $50 dollars when he returned to the US on his way through customs the watch was discovered and he had to pay “duty” based on the full retail value of the real watch or turn it over to customs.
Anyway every time I traveled I always had to “declare” items purchased abroad when I returned to the US and pay the associated fees.

Thank you very much for the replys, I do hope that there is a more definitive process to figure that out in the future, but then again American stores do you have the products for moderately the same price,  If I were to add in the tariffs and custom charges. I assume I am going to be buying from a US retailer thank you very much. Not a horrible thing in the first place.
