Hello, I recently got this lens, Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 IF-ED, and comes with a built-in 52mm thread filter draw but only Astronomic makes those at a premium and I have seen that some pple use the standard 2" filters with this lens with Nikon Z cameras (I am aware of ZWO adapters for their cameras but I'm interested in using my Nikon Z8).

I made an adapter from a M48 to M52 converter ring (I had to mill off  3 mm to make it fit into the lens). Alternatively, if you can get a F to Z flange adapter, remove the camera mating flange from it and use ZWO's own adapters to replace the F-flange with the Z-flange (which are made for a backfocus of 17.5 mm which leaves 1.5mm spare to fit). Finally, I knew of a company in White Russia that made them but whether they are still available I don't know.

Thanks, Andrea! For the adapter you made, did you use it with a fullframe Nikon camera? I am trying to figure out if going down to M48 will produce vignetting - I guess that it would and if it does, is it too bad?

At f/2.8 it is already vignetted by the 2" filter with a FF camera, so yes, but I use it with an APS-C camera so I'm fine.

Alternatively, you can use a clip-in filter which goes in front of the sensor on your Nikon Z.
