Recently did some imaging on NGC1333. To see what I came up with you can go here: https://astrob.in/szrttl/B/

I'd like to see what others can do with it. Sorry it's in Pixinsight's file format, but if you have GraXpert I believe you can easily convert it to a .tiff or whatever you need.

Equipment used was ASI2600MM Pro, Chroma LRGB filters, FRA300 in case you need it for color calibration.

Data Link will be up for at least a few months probably. As long as I don't need to make room. It's here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1t4Te4q5tcob4rNpus3vmu_MgccuwfFJ1?usp=sharing

My version:

NGC_1333LRGB.jpg

This is very nice data for training! I am almost done collecting data for my own NGC 1333, so I decided to try processing yours first
Processed with PixInsight first. Channel combination, SPCC. DBE is crucial as there is significant light pollution visible (especially on the left) and because of DBE/light pollution some colours are probably lost on the left.

Then StarXTerminator and BlurXTerminator separately for stars and starless RGB and L. Stars may be better, I only used stars from the RGB image, separately stretched with GHS.

Starless L and RGB quickly stretched with SetiAstro Statistical Stretch (target median: ~0.12) and then saved to Photoshop for further processing (curves, some adjustment layers with vibrance; colour correction on stars; LAB mode for RGB and colour boost).

Please consider making the image data available for free download at AstrophotoMarket.com (https://astrophotomarket.com/en/sell-share-image-data-set) to keep it available for download in the future (this is my recently launched service, so forgive the little "advertising" ).

Looks good! I was debating how much color to try and get in the dust. My first revision had more, but I wasn’t happy with other parts of it.

I’ll check that site out and keep it in mind.

Just got some CPU upgrades so tried fairly quickly in pixinsight. Thanks for the data, it is very good!

Very nice both of you. Oscar, you actually got the color out in the center of the image, that’s something I wanted to get but really struggled with compared to my version from last year using my C8.

1333Result.jpgThat was fun... I'll have a go when Im not supposed to be working and actually be careful with it, but this was 10~15min in PI only.

If I bring PS into the mix and spend a bit more time on the RGB/Lum blending process I think I could make it much much better!

I'm probably more selective with blinking than many. I tossed 30 subs and ended up using 574. Nearly all were because of tracking errors, but that's been a fact of life for me with my EQM-35 Pro mount. I've realized after about half of all my filter changes the first exposure is no good. Then being in a pretty dark bortle 4 helps too. SQM on a new moon dances around 21. If only there were less cloudy nights!

It is REALLY cool to see the different takes on the same data set.  Every outcome is unique and they are all amazing.

The more I do this the more I realize the goal of image processing is not to adhere to some particular standard, but rather to produce an image that is faithful to the data and reflects one's personal tastes.

Really interesting blend of subjectivity and objectivity, this hobby of ours – turning ancient photons into electrons and then into art.

From myself I would vote your version as best! In my mind the dark areas should be brown color, and you are keeping that kind of soft brown best!

Appreciate the kind words. Just a quick edit. Needs a bit of colour balance as maybe a hint of green in there. Also needs some masks to bring out the reflection nebula. Like yourself I love the browns and aim for that. As others have said I also love all the interpretations of the same data.

I completely forgot where I got the NGC1333 data. Glad I found this thread again so I can give you the credit for it. Here's the image I produced from your shared data:

Processed in PI. It's nice to work with good data and not have to fight every single step like I do with my own . Thanks for allowing me the opportunity!

Yes thank for sharing this great data. I've never processed anything besides data from my Nikon Z7 (very little) and mostly my 533MC Pro, so this is my first time processing another camera, mono data, and this target. All of it was an excellent learning experience.
Everything processing in PI. I can expand on my workflow if needed.
Cheers and clear skies.
Aaron
