I'm looking for a program that works like blurexterminator for use within or outside of Siril. I have not pulled the trigger on pixinsight just yet.

Have you ever tried deconvolution? It's what BXT does, but doing it manually takes a bit of trial and error while learning the ropes. I did a quick comparison in PI in this thread: https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/astrophotography/deep-sky-processing-techniques/ai-in-processing/ BXT isn't necessarily a must, but it is very helpful. The main advantage is the correctional feature and the ease of use (which can also be it's downfall when over-used/used "wrongly"). In my example I didn't really change much from the standard settings, as far as I can remember, but it does hold up as comparable IMO. Give that a go in Siril, I'm sure there are some tutorials on the matter if need be. I don't know Siril specifically, but they do have deconvolution. I believe they also might have their own DBE tools for background extraction and possibly sharpening tools like wavelets and/or unsharpmask ? The latter two are often used alongside other tools in PI, BXT is not a one step solution as far as I'm concerned. |

SetiAstro has created a solution along the lines of what BXT does: https://www.setiastro.com/cosmic-clarity It doesn't need PI, it can run standalone, and it's free. |

As was mentioned, Siril does have deconvolution which will get you a long way towards what BX does. There is a certain procedure for it but once you have it, it's not difficult. If you want to message me back channel I'd be happy to run you through the steps. It should also be mentioned that the free program GraxPert does a wonderful job of eliminating noise. Between those two tools, you should be covered.

Oh, just tried the SetiAstro software. It does a good job but the interface takes a bit of effort ;(

Cuiv the Lazy Geek just provided a review, comparison with BX, and instructions on using the SetiAstro software for sharpening and blur extermination. Link to Cuiv's YouTube video - BlurXterminator, but FREE?! Installing & testing Cosmic Clarity by SetiAstro (vs BlurXterminator) |

It should be mention that Siril has a synthetic stars option that when combined with other tools can give you the same optical correction results that BXT does.

Graxpert now has non star deconvolution now. As someone who has avoided using sirils it pretty cool |

GraXpert deconvolution and denoise will be in Siril 1.4 release, along with many other functions equivalent to those found in PI. SetiAstro tools are very good, and may be 'integrated' into Siril interface in due course.

Topaz Labs with Photo AI, deconvolution - noise reduction - etc. is very good. |

Since your original post, Cosmic Clarity has been released by Seti Astro. It includes a blur exterminator like sharpening and a noise reduction tool. It won't correct star shapes the way BX does but it does a great job at sharpening. https://www.setiastro.com/cosmic-clarity |
