I have imaged this a couple of times.
I absolutely see the Elephants Trunk, and obviously work to emphasise it.
But every time I show my images to my family and friends they tell me that it does not look like an Elephants Trunk at all.
They say it looks like a woman gazing out into space, seen from behind the woman. I tell them that the whole astro-community sees an Elephants trunk, but they insist it is a woman.
They told me the community should rename this to Woman Contemplates Universe Nebula.
Does any one else have this type of issue??

ever since one random guy called it a woman (before you), I can never unsee the shape of a woman
before that, I never saw any Elephant trunk anyway : p

My daughter and my wife both saw it as a woman the first time I showed them my image. I can’t unsee that either. Although my version would be more like ‘Woman Walking Into the Inferno’

I don’t see the woman either, at least so clearly, but my family and one friend of mine have said that too when they have seen my photo of it. Something like “a woman with her curves and all”.

My apologies in advance if you find this facetious, but my wife considers that most of the common names for nebulae were devised by people who were well in the cups! (That's the polite version!) I have to admit that I think she isn't too far wrong, sometimes.
To me, it looks more like an elephant's trunk than a woman.
