I imaged m16 a couple months. Would like to see how the data can be reinterpreted by ppl here. You can keep the data in rgb or do a narrowband palette since I used an sv220 filter which selects for Halpha and Oxygen III.

Nice data! Do you have the Fl of your scope? I need it for photometric cc.

Nevermind, looking at your account it seemed to be 800ish. Here's the resultm16a.jpg

Tried to take a pass. How long was the integration time? I am fairly new to postprocessing, and haven't had much chance to do HOO palettes. Critiques appreciated

my version, workflow in pixinsight
- dynamic crop
-  Gradient correction
- image solve (I uploaded it to nova astrometry to have hints)
- photometriccolorcalibration
- blurxterminator
- starxterminator
  - I kept starts from an ez "soft stretched" image clone of the original
- noisexterminator
- histogram transformation (stretch)
- noisexterminator
- histogram transformation (remove black point)
- curves transformation (the "S")
- local histogram transformation (with mask) at 64px
- local histogram transformation (with mask) at 256px
- unsharp mask (with range selection mask)
- noisexterminator
- pixel math (stars back to image)
- curves transformation (increased saturation)

The one M16 to rule them all.
My own data with similar filter always turns out like the other red ones. Now you're forcing me to try again, again. With no pixinsight, though I can transpose most of your workflow with a couple of substitutions.

This is my take on the data. I decided to leave it a straight up RGB and focus on the stars and background. I didn't go completely black on the background. This is such a gas rich region I wanted to tease that there is something just below the surface... I used my standard RGB workflow and selected the Antlia ALP-T filter in SPCC in PI. BXT, SXT, and NXT were used. Stars were separated while image was linear and processed separately.

If you are after a more colorful image, the best way is to add Sii data. This is a quick'n dirty edit with your HOO data and my own Sii data.

Here's my cut at it. Btw... what was your total integration?

This is so fantastic it almost made me delete the two hours of data I managed to capture few months ago in disgust

Hello, I made your data look like Hubble

and I didn't add any SII or anything other than what was in your data

this is your data:
guys data turned into hubble.jpg

this is Hubble:
hubble crop.jpg

I used some made up masking techniques and narrowbandnormalization also, and a careful eye, of course

I had an hour of integration.

Absolutely amazing! Thanks. I was trying to replicate the hubble image with my processing but you did it much better than me. Can you post a full image version of this?

BTW thank you to everyone else who participated in this thread. It's always awesome to see how the data varies after processing.

total integration is an hour and 8 minutes. I appreciate your take on the data. I love the detail that you brought out but I think the contrast and brightness needs to be lower.

very sorry, the crop was done in the middle of processing and I didn't do any full crop version

if you want, I can do it again, but with full crop

Every time I process data, I use different techniques from the last time, because I don't remember what exactly I did the last time

but here is a try
retry.jpg
the crop version had more of a hubble look :/

sorry I couldn't make it better
