Heya! I’ve got an edge hd 800 with the matching 0.7x reducer. I also have an askar 65phq. Here’s my (probably crazy) thought process… The edge to is supposed to be a flat well corrected field before you add the reducer, and the 65phq is supposed to be the same without a reducer. Would the edge 0.7x potentially work on the 65phq? I mean, if it did, that’s another FOV combination without spending money! |

Probably not, that reducer is designed specifically for the Edge HD. It's doing more than focal reduction. You could certainly try it on your 65phq but I wouldn't expect it to work very well.

Another problem might be the thread. Celestron uses a different thread (imperial?) than all other scopes I have. So at least an adapter is needed to screw it on.

There is no way that reducer will work on a refractor, the optics on an SCT involving a mirror are totally different from the glass in a refracting lens assembly, and the reducer will work totally differently too, but try it by all means, but if it helps, about 10 years go I put a Meade reducer on a refractor, knowing it would not work but just to see what effect it had, and well suffice to say it totally trashed the view…👍🏻

I think that it might work as both scopes give a flat field prior to the reducer. Seems that the reducer has no need to further flatten the field it may be the same. I do agree, though, it’s best to try them and see if it actually works. |

I remember one guy put a coma corrector on his SCT and it somehow became F/2 (I think he machined a part that allowed him to connect the CC to the front-end, like a Hyperstar), and the resulting images were actually more decent than I would've expected try it, and tell us what happens |

I don’t think it would be perfect, but I think it could work with a m4/3 sensor. Edit: I’m not going to try because I don’t have the SCT thread adapters ![]() |
