Salvatore Iovene: Hello everyone,
following my email, Ika apologized for his behavior and deleted the Displate gallery. This is a serious copyright infringement, stealing images for profit… This users shouldn’t be allowed on the platform after such an offence. Apologetics words are not enough.

Thanks! He may have deleted the main link to Stolen Astroimages from his landing page but individual stolen images are still up for sale. https://displate.com/displate/7342894 |

Salvatore Iovene: following my email, Ika apologized for his behavior and deleted the Displate gallery. Isn't there still a copyright issue hear, what about all the money he may have made selling these images before he was caught. This is to be dissuss with Displate, wich only deleted pics, and nothing more.... no feedbacks.... nothing

Frank Alvaro: IMHO an apology for this disgraceful behaviour isn't enough.
I don't put a watermark on my images because I feel it detracts from the image itself, but maybe I should reconsider (although my images probably aren't good enough to steal anyway). I put an extremely subtle watermark on mine regardless, as my TPN M42 image was stolen a few months ago, and distributed on some facebook groups and an instagram page (funny enough the thief claimed it was taken with a 2600 and an Esprit 120).

I've had this happen as well and only found out through acquaintances through different groups. The thought of adding watermarks to my images seem a bit daunting, but I guess that's where we are. Which settings do you apply? I have a feeling this will be the norm now. Displate certainly won't be the last place we see work from AB up for sale without authorization. Not only that. I haven't yet seen any of my images for sale but I have had images taken by a plethora of people for use in articles, social media etc without consent. A few contacted me by IG, e-mail or even by phone to ask permission and get my story which I genuinly appreciate- but images were taken, re-edited and re-posted all over for a while without me knowing it. Many gave credit, but that's still not 100% ok with me as the owner to simply take them without permission. Even less so when they are poorly re-edited as well.

One of our images of Team Ouranos has also been stolen: https://www.astrobin.com/f4dv5v/
We have written a message of complaint and the page of the account in question has been deleted. I also received the same message as above from Displate, which I feel is totally inadequate given that profits were generated with our image. Personally, I don't intend to leave it at that with them, nor with the person responsible for this counterfeit (which is a penal infraction in France as in many countries...). I hope this guy will be banned from AstroBin definitively. jb

I hope this guy will be banned from AstroBin definitively. Yes, this is most likely what will happen. I needed to make some changes to the code to stop access to suspended account (not only to the owner of the account, but for other users on their content): https://github.com/astrobin/astrobin/pull/3249I'll take a few hours to think if I want to give him a refund on what will be an unused portion of his paid subscription.

I believe I only use 1 or 2% opacity on mine. Its barely noticeable, but not enough that it catches your eye when you look at the image to begin with. I'm fine with sharing my own releases with credit, reposting with credit or without leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and editing my photos is a no-go for me.

I wish someone want to steal one of my images ;) That horsehead image with the yellow flame behind is so amazing im almost tempted Which country is the offender in? Maybe local law enforcement take a dim view of fraud and obtaining money by deception? Maybe not |

@Salvatore Iovene My suggestion, if I may, is refund him. I know he does not deserve it and that you should not be losing money because some guy acted wrongly but on the other hand, be careful not to put yourself in a position where you'd have to spend the next 6 months defending yourself and AB's reputation all over the internet if this guy tries to get revenge by shaming AB claiming everywhere you stole his money.

Hi all, the account https://www.astrobin.com/users/Ika_Abuladze/ has been suspended indefinitely. The gallery and the images are not available on AstroBin anymore, and the owner of the account is unable to use it again. Given that they had a monthly subscription with $1.44 of unused time, I refunded that. Thank you all for your patience and your support in this matter! Salvatore

Is the art thief actually removing your signature from your images? That is definitely highly unethical and if he's selling the images, illegal…
