I am fairly new to astrophotography. I am a senior at a high school in Sonoma County, California. I have a class that has seniors take on a project that we want to engage in, and work towards a final goal or finished piece. One of my biggest interests has been astrophotography. I have most of the equipment I would need to take part in the project except for a few pieces. The project itself is spaced over 4 to 5 month, and in that time, I will work with a mentor to hone my skills in the field of my project. I would be very thankful if you, or someone you know would be interested in mentoring me in this project. If this is possible, I would greatly appreciate guidance in this craft.
If you have any questions about my project, or about the class and are interested, or know someone who might be interested who lives in Marin or Sonoma county, please reach out to me.
If you have any questions about me, please feel free to ask Mikko Borjarsky who is my Natural Sciences teacher. You can reach him at [email protected]
You can get in contact with me by my email, [email protected]

Hi there, I am not particularly well versed in astrophotography, but would it be possible for you're mentor to be contactable by zoom or video call instead of in person?

I don't know that I'd be available to mentor, but what are the few pieces of equipment you are missing? Depending on what you already have, I worry about whether this would be cost-prohibitive (e.g., if you don't have a mount – that can be pretty expensive, especially depending on the scope you wish to use).

Hi, so I have a Nexstar 5se with the mount, tri-pod, and telescope, I am only missing a smart phone adapter, which is roughly $70, so it is a very doable thing for me.

also forgot to mention that the mentorship is at max around 10 hours together, I would spend another 90 doing it myself, granted that 10 hours is a lot of time to work with someone you don't know.

It may also be possible to do the 10 hours over zoom or video call

Hi Lucian, way to pick a fun project! I'd be happy to link you up with the SFAA group I chat with regularly. There's at least a few of us who regularly image from Marin and would be happy to help you out. Here's the group website https://www.sfaa-astronomy.org/

If you are familiar with it, I suggest joining the Slack channel since it's fairly active.

I can also pass your email on to the club president. I'm sure we can get you setup with the right help.
