Rest in peace, Michael. This is devastating news. Michael was an active member of our community, and respected by many. He has had a very strong impact on our community as an IOTD Judge. I heard from him last time in the Fall of last year, and he mentioned to me that he was battling a serious illness. My deepest condolences to Michael's wife. Salvatore |

Oh..this message touches me deeply. Mike was a great astrobin friend for me here for a long time. I knew he was suffering from cancer and hoped he would overcome it. I am really sad about his passing. He was a very friendly and warm heartet person and open to everyone. May he rest in peace. Yes please keep his beautiful pictures here on astrobin, so that his friends can go to his beloved work, like his family can visit his grave to give him a sign of honour and love. Christoph |

I was stunned to see this announcement some hours ago. I couldn't respond immediately, it just touched my heart so. Though my participation here on AB is relatively recent, Mike was more than willing to offer assistance and very respectful exchanges of great interest to me. I wondered why I heard from him increasing infrequently as of late. Sad to hear the reason why.

So, so sad to hear this. Mike was such a kind and pleasant person to interact with. While we never met in person, he was the type of person you felt like you knew for years as a good friend. Rest in peace, Mike.

I am saddened to hear this news. Although I didn't know him well, Mike was an active participant here and I always enjoyed hearing from him and seeing his images. It would be nice if the IOTD team would consider going through all of his images and picking their favorite to make it the IOTD in honor of his memory. That would be a nice tradition when we learn of the passing of particularly well known or involved AB participant. Perhaps his loved ones could be invited to attach an obituary to the image. It would certainly be a fitting way to honor Mike's memory. John |

Seeing this one took the wind out of my sails today. Unexpected tears flowed because of the gratitude I have for @Michael Feigenbaum through his mentoring and encouragement to me through our mutual enjoyment of capturing the night sky. He more than probably anyone else propelled me through the joys and short falls of the initial years of imaging. Words alluded me then and still several hours later. Mike was one of the very first to comment and encourage me as I ventured into the world of astrophotography. He and I started imaging with an edge 9.25 nearly 5 years ago at the same time. Our correspondence about equipment, processing, enjoyment of the hobby, and the joy of the community on astrobin continued over those 5 years. I am sure he had similar involvement with so many others in a mentoring role as well. He was quick to send me morning messages of congratulations and encouragement about my presentations on TAIC. He was graceful in his appreciation and desire to continually improve his and my process start to finish. He made me laugh talking about his wife appreciating thanking him and other at the start of one of the presentation. We each so appreciated our wives' support of our fascinating but slightly off the beaten path hobby. He was the first to reach out to me after I posted my first image after my dad's unexpected passing. He exuded care and enthusiasm through his astrophotography. Mike's own words in a message he sent state it best, " In my journey, I received a lot of the same kind of support from other experienced and very nice imagers. To me, sharing the journey has always been as important as learning the skills. The camaraderie here is so good and very unique I think. " Thank you Mike and you will be missed! |

Very sad news. We followed each other: I liked/commented on his photos and he did the same with me. I noticed that he hasn't been as active as he used to be, but I never thought of such a terrible illness. Rest in peace Michael. |
