It’s today, 1 August. A day to celebrate the grit, determination and intelligence of women astronomers who fought, and in some places are still fighting, for recognition of their skills and and important contributions to astronomy.

We could all start by recognizing that “Pickering's” Triangle in the Veil Nebula is actually Fleming’s Triangle. Williamina Fleming, one of Harvard Observatory’’s highly skilled and underpaid female “computers" discovered it (along with the Horsehead Nebula) , but her boss at Harvard Observatory, Edward Pickering, got the credit.  Such was life then for women astronomers.

It is actually ridiculous how it is within relatively recent history that half the population were discriminated against in academia of all places.  The one area where one would think people were intelligent enough to know better.
