Do you guys think ZWO is going to have a Black Friday sale? I have plenty of items in my cart but I can’t remember when they started the sale the following years

I'm going to be careful to restrain myself and not say anything political here but I have a feeling that it might be good to stock up on all of your favorite Chinese made astro-gear as soon as possible–on sale or not.  It's very likely that it's all going to cost more in the not too distant future.

They always do, but if I'm not mistaken black friday was earlier last year than this year. They usually tease their sales a week beforehand or so. If not there's always the annual sale they do each Christmas.

The last time they ran a sale they didn't include everything however, only select items. I hope the upcoming sale has a general % off as per usual though.

Why not just buy from Taobao at a cheaper price and have it shipped to your home? Alibaba's official delivery service was launched just a few months ago. Alternatively, you could wait for China's Double 12 shopping festival, where many items are offered at an 15% off.

Some vendors wont give warranties for items bought through AliExpress or similar sites (TaoBao might be one of them). So that's one reason. At least some companies explicitly say this on their website.

Also +1.

This begs a question. What if one bought a Chinese made product but from a non-US and non-Chinese seller?

I understand how they can easily mega-tariff large items (cars, appliances, etc.)  but what about  smaller stuff from astro-cameras to some cheap plastic do-dad? I suspect there would be work arounds, both legal and otherwise.

Not in the market for anything in the foreseeable future having just upgraded nearly everything in the past year, so just an academic question.

I don't know what do you mean so please elaborate or explain it for me clearly, are you saying don't buy from ZWO basically?

I don't know what i have to buy if i have to buy because i already have so many cameras already from ZWO as planetary and one cooled, not interested in their telescopes really, and their mount is like nothing special to choose them over others anyway, so it really comes down to only ZWO cameras if i will buy from them again during black Friday or any Friday or any day.

*** He is referring to a candidate that won election in the USA and had declared imposing Tariffs on foreign goods which experts say could raise prices by 60% or so.   So buy now before he gets in.  Your mileage may vary***

I know they did in 2020 because that's when I spent a lot of money on my first ZWO set-up. Now I need more ZWO gear and am counting on another BF sale.

Ah ok, this is never my concern at all because i don't live in USA, i live in Middle East and buying from China is easy and cheap for me, no increased tariffs or whatever, i though it was something else, but anyway, this won't last forever, i bought things at a bit higher prices, but i bought so so many things at lower prices than original, kind of balanced or even saved a bit so far, thank you for clarifying it to me.

My first asrto camera ever was ZWO ASI120MC usb2.0, i bought it in 2017 when i started astrophotography, followed by QHY163M same year, then last ZWO made that end of year discounts which fueled my G.A.S, so i bought ASI385MC, followed by ASI290MM, and i kept continue, now i have maybe 8 ZWO cameras, one is damaged which is my first ever one ASI120 and one is cooled mono, all other are just planetary non cooled, almost all of them i bought with discounts except ASI120 i think and maybe ASI178MC.

You might even be able to sell it and get more than you paid for it in a couple of months! A nice short term business model for some enterprising person with a bit of cash on hand they'd like to "invest".

That's scalping, plain and simple. For me a huge no-no and quite immoral.

On the other hand, have anyone else noticed the change on ZWO's website? Most of their products seem to be gone from their store.

Ye I saw yesterday all my products in the cart got removed and can no longer find them on the site. Links to the products on Google show 404 error or send me to a page that tells me that it is password protected.

Am5n and the new seestar are still there, but the s50,all asi airs, efw and eaf are all gone.

There has been a banner on a Canadian website saying save with zwo from 20th Nov to 3rd jan. So it could well be they have pulled everything going on sale so they can adjust the pricing etc.

See what happens over the next few days
