It sounds like your assumption is that if an image doesn't get an IOTD there is something wrong with it or it could have been improved.  That's not at all the case.  There are many images that are as good as the data and framing could get but simply weren't as interesting as other images that day.  There are many, many objects that aren't going to be attractive enough to be awarded an IOTD no matter how it is capture or processed.

It might have been easier to get a critique and feedback if you had not mentioned your concern came from being awarded a TP and not IOTD.

I don’t frequent this forum that often normally, but have done over the last few days, and all I seem to be seeing is a trend of people complaining about either the IOTD and why they have not won, wanting a dislike button added, and also moaning about separating the remote imagers images from backyard imagers for the IOTD.
when will people realise that these competition things are always biased and will never be any different, people’s optinions will always vary, the judges will see and like what they like, that is just life, I have seen some quite poor images win the IOTD, but so what, but if that’s what you are in the hobby for, then I feel sad for you, so just either accept it and move on and enjoy the hobby or leave the forum.

This is exactly why a few years ago I didn't allow such topics (IOTD and Likes) on the AstroBin forums. Some people complained about "censorship", so I created a specific space where people can discuss AstroBin-related topics, this group here:
https://www.astrobin.com/groups/5785/astrobin-platform-open-discussions-community-forum/

But as it's a public group, the topics there are in the "recent topics".

I'm not sure what the best solution is, since I want the AstroBin forum a place where people discuss astrophotography and astronomy, and not stuff like that.

Especially as the IOTD is a recurring topic and, understandably, forum veterans are sick of hearing the same suggestions come up again and again even tho they have been thoroughly rebutted already.

The forum for seeking feedback on an image is Request for Constructive Critique. This forum is for discussing the website itself so responses inevitably reflect that, especially with the framing in the title and original post.

OP did post to Request for Constructive Critique, but since it turns out to be an IOTD thing I moved it to the AstroBin Platform Open Discussions forum.

I see, and it makes sense it was moved given the request for feedback seems secondary to the IOTD system in the OP.

I think allowing to talk about it is a good solutions. While it would be valuable to have veterans in conversations about this, if they are annoyed, they could just ignore the topic and move on.

If you feel like this post is aggressive in some way, I leave up to you to terminate it.

I'm trying to understand how the process works and increase my chances to have my photos exposed in IOTD to have more reach and have more people seeing my work. I don't make money from this or try to every image to get IOTD, it's not like I'm desperate to win it. Still, some of images almost gets there and it leaves me wondering if I'm missing something.

Yes, it's okay to talk about it. It just need to be relegated to a space that doesn't affect people who want to talk about astrophotography and astronomy independently from the AstroBin platform.

Hello Mauricio,

as a judge, I would like to answer your question. We have really a lot of great pics in the IOTD queue we have to choose from. I remember your pic above in the queue. It is a lovely and great work in my eyes with no flaws at all. The only reason why I decided not to select it was….that in the great ammount of pictures to choose from, I was more impressed by another one. That's all. We only are possible to select 365 IOTD per year. That does not mean that you have to improve your skills or something like that. More depending is what pictures else are in the queue. So said, it is also a kind of luck to get one of the few IOTD which are possible. Your picture would have been worth to get this award in my eyes. So don't give up.

Cheers, Christoph

Since the topic is naturally shifting consistently to the IOTD thing rather than feedback on my image (also the topic was moved) - I think the best is to terminate it. Honestly I'm not willing to discuss this anymore as other topics are very busy about it and I'm reading through the conversation there, and I feel like if I have something to say, I would rather say it there, not here.

I still got a few feedbacks and I appreciate it.

I'm not finding a button to close it, so I suggested one is added.
