I and others too probably are interested in converting some of our images into prints, calendars and other printed items.  Printify.com is an easy on ramp to integrate image content display with e-commerce (payment, shipping) and elaborate printing options.  It seems like a natural flow to go from an IOTD or Top Pic or whatever to a printable salable poster or framed print or whatnot, which could even have a percentage go to astrobin.

People can do this themselves with their own wrapper or separate site and printify.com or other printing service integration.  If astrobin did it, I think it would enable a lot of e-commece potential for hardworking astrophotographers.

I don’t think it would be worth trouble. There’d be negotiations with whatever website to partner with. Then implementing it.

The vast majority of the user base probably wouldn’t use it even for personal use.  People who want to sell their prints are better served having a website.

Then I could see a lot of users being disappointed in the results. By that, I mean there are a lot of people who only view Astrobin on poorly calibrated or just poor quality monitors. I believe there would be a not insignificant amount of people who would order prints and be disappointed with how they look. I believe some of those people would blame the print service or Astrobin before they’d accept that either they’re not that good at processing or that their monitor changes how their images look that much.

Great feedback, @Quinn Groessl, thank you.  To address those points:

1. negotiation: Printify dot com publishes a standard 5% affiliate offer (https://printify.com/affiliate/)

2. People selling prints on their own sites:  Astrobin would be an additional sales channel and marketing opportunity even if you already have web site.

3. disappointment in results:  this is pretty valid though I do think most IOTD and Top Pics are likely to print out pretty well if a high resolution print option was offered for that purpose.  It would have to come with some warnings or minimum requirements for image size and resolution … Walgreens photo app and web site does it, Astrobin certainly could, although Walgreens also has a liberal return policy if you don’t like a print.  Printify has a less liberal policy, only in cases of defect or damagehttps://help.printify.com/hc/en-us/articles/4483630299025-How-does-Printify-handle-refunds-and-returns)

4. effort to implement and ROI: for Astrobin it would be a selling point to astrophotography subscribers.  Astrobin already has a path to e-commerce integration via the shipping cart links to equipment sellers and its marketplace.  This could definitely be implemented in more than one way.

thank you,
Scott
