hello I have recently purchased the seestar s50 and taken a few images with it and stacked and processed them using siril, but I have noticed that they always come out with a lot of noise. How can I avoid this?

Do you take dark frames?
If so, how many?

Use noise reduction, it is in Siril under the image processing tab but even better, grab a copy of Graxpert. It's free and does a wonderful job of reducing noise.

I believe when you use SeeStar in Autorun mode it makes and applies the needed calibration frames automatically but you'll still need to reduce noise in post.

Hello Nikolaos,

There is a good tutorial from Siril on S50 data here: https://siril.org/tutorials/seestar/ and here too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syCVl1fDLTk

For the noise reduction, Graxpert is a good option. If you can install the latest Siril BETA and Graxpert, it is now fully integrated.

If you want a comparaison with Pixinsight, I could process your data if you want so you can compare.

Cheers

Stéphane

Since you have Photoshop, do you have the Actions tool set? Lots of good plug-ins in it for just $22. Reduce noise is one of them.

The S50 automatically takes dark frames.

How many subs are you shooting? The more subs you take, the less noise you will end up with once you stack them in Siril or other software. There is a point of diminishing returns but generally the more total time you spend on a target, the less noise you will end up with in the final stack prior to beginning to post process your images. As others have mentioned, there are different scripts and software that you can use in your processing workflow. I personally use Graxpert in my PixInsight workflow.
