Hello and welcome! I would like to ask everyone who uses the Seastar or is familiar with the Skywatcher tripod for telescopes. 

Today, I tested the telescope and its compatibility with this tripod, but I ran into a problem. When I tried to move the telescope to focus on an object, it didn’t move left or right; it only moved up and down. 

Was I doing something wrong? I securely attached the telescope to the tripod to prevent it from falling. For some reason, the Seastar doesn’t seem to work well with its new tripod. 

Do I need to install the leveler first, or could there be another reason the Seastar isn’t moving left and right?

Most likely the base of the Seestar is dragging/jammed against the top ring of the tripod.  I use the same tripod, but only with a leveler between the units and have never encountered an issue.  If you look closely at the tripod that came with the Seestar, it has a small rubberized washer that fits between the top of the tripod and the base of the unit preventing it from snugging up against the metal platform of the tripod………..the star adventure has no such shim.  If you do not have or want to use a leveler, you might try using a 1-2" diameter felt washer so that when you tighten the unit to the tripod there is a small gap between the tripod base ring and the Seestar.

So it doesn't need to be too fixed on the tripod too much?
Do you need to only fix the telescope enough to give some space for it to move around?

It needs to be tight (but yes not too tight such as to cause binding), the idea is to not allow wobble as it swivels around or make it subject to unnecessary vibrations.  If you look at the bottom of the telescope you'll see that there is a circular area around the mounting hole that matches the rubber grommet on the tripod that came with it.  This is the pivot ring for the scope to spin on for horizontal movement………..the rubber grommet on the tripod gives the rest of the housing clearance to rotate, that is what you can achieve with a thin rubber or felt grommet (rubber or even plastic preferred as it won't compress as much as felt) on the Star Adventurer tripod if you do not have a leveling base (which by the way also has a rubber grommet around the mounting screw).

I have been using a photo tripod with my Seestar.  It has a high load capacity and I do not extend it fully.  No
problems with vibration.

As others have pointed out.  The circle on the bottom of the Seestar (this is the seestar drive shaft/gears) needs to be firmly affixed to the tripod and the surface area outside of that circle needs to be free to move.  Depending on how much gap you have you can always add a spacer that will be essentially frictionless to minimize the tilting movement of the telescope. It may offer some more stability during high winds but is not neccessary.
