Hello and welcome. I recently purchased a New Seastar telescope and I'm wondering if it's necessary to have the lens protector. I opted not to buy any additional accessories to keep costs down, as they can be quite expensive. The lens protector would have added almost 300 to the total cost. I'm curious to know if anyone else uses this telescope without the lens protector and if it's okay to do so.

Lens protector during use? Like you would a cell phone? Or like a Dew Shield? Or is it a cover during storage? I wouldn't put anything in front of the optics if it's not necessary (e.g. solar filter for the sun). Dew shield is fine because it doesn't go over the actual lens. And cover during storage is fine but it's usually pointing down or in its case. |
