I use an OSC camera (ASI2600MC) with a contrasting filter, for example a dualband filter - but I do not see any option to tell the software that I am using that filter because there seems to be no option for OSC filters in the program.

What do you do in such a situation?

Thanks - CS

Georg

You should be able to click into the field that says “Filter” and start typing your filter used. Most filters will show up. Here’s how it looks on mobile but on Desktop it’s pretty much the sameIMG_5323.png

Does this come up after you connected your mount? I was trying to enter the filter before I connected the mount ! (CEM25EC)

You know what? I misinterpreted your question. I thought you were referring to adding it on Astrobin. I actually don’t know how to do it in the ASIAir either, but my workaround is:

Click the camera tab > Scroll to bottom > Click on “custom file name” > type in name of the filter somewhere in the name field.

It won’t save the filter in the metadata (so stacking software may not recognize a filter being used) but you can read the filter name in the FITS file name, and stack or process as needed.

hopefully that answers your question better!

Hello @Georg N. Nyman. If you don't have the filter wheel, you won't be able to attach this information to your raw files (unless there's a solution I haven't found). I've written a small Python script to add this information to all my raw files, which I run on my computer (I'm on macOS but it also works on Windows). In conclusion, there's no solution on ASIAIR. But maybe I haven't found it, and someone else might have another trick.

That's exactly it!

OK, because I just looked everywhere in the ASIair menu there is no option to add a filter for OSC. Thanks for your advise!

Another question related to the new ASIair256G2 - which file format is acceptable for the USB-C slot which should be used to add an external USB stick… ? I tried my 1TB SSK drive and it was not recognized… probably wrong file format?

I did not find any information in the ZWO documentation

Thanks
Georg

Hello, in my understanding the usb-c port can only be used to connect the asiair to a computer directly with a USB-C to USB-A cable. It is intended to load your files faster than with a USB stick but doesn't solve the storage needs and it is cumbersome to disassemble the asiair or move the laptop nearby every time… That said with 256gb and an osc camera you shouldn't be concerned by storage space, as this gives you plenty of room to play with several nights imaging unless you take real short exposures.

The response given is correct.  The USB C Port is for a direct connection to PC for File Transfer.  Over WiFi the transfer speed is slow and at the times erratic.  The Laptop/PC recongnises ASI Air as a drive and transfer process is fast.

If you don't have a filter wheel you can't insert the information in the image metadata but you can still add it in the .TIF file name. Just go to the "Main Camera" menu of ASIAir => "Customize File Name" and type the "Custom Suffix" by entering, for example, "Filter_LPro". In this way programs like PixInsight will still recognize the name of the filter.

I use a 2600mc with an L-Ultimate filter and an ASIAIR with a filter drawer.  My duo band exposures are usually 300" and my broadband (no filter) are usually 60".  I assign the filter name (eg ULT or RGB) when I process the lights in Pixinsight.  As others have said, this can't be assigned when using the ASIAIR if you aren't using a filter wheel.
