Hello! I am new to astrophotography and I need a little help getting started. For some reason, when I attach my ZWO ASI 385 to my telescope (I have an Askar 103 APO), I can't see the sky. If I get an object centered in my telescope, (such as the moon) it appears as a very small dot, or as though I'm looking through a tiny hole at the end of my telescope tube. I've tried focusing it, using extenders, adjusting my settings, etc, etc. I think it's the way I put it into the telescope, but I'm doing it exactly as directed. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hello! Yes, we tried that. It's as though the camera just shows a small dot of light/whatever the telescope is pointed at. We could see the moon through it, but it was extremely small with a black area (inside of telescope tube?) that wasn't the night sky around it.

Yes, but for some reason, it works better with out it. With it on, I believe the screen was black or it showed only the small dot of light.

*** Sorry- When not attached to the telescope and without the telescope adapter, I can see clearly and full-screen. However, with the adapter on, I see a white screen and it changes to dark if I hover my hand over it. ***

*** I have an Askar 103 apo. Also, we tried it with an extender and the 1'25 adapter on, (doesn't fit but we managed) and we got a clear image. Should I need an extender? I use ASI Studio and even with the gain on 100 I can see nothing no matter how much i focus. ***

Here it is with the barlow lens on. Is this normal? I have the settings on default and changed the resolution as you said

the amount of reduction in focal length it takes to turn the moon into a dot is impossible to have with your native focal length and your camera

maybe can you show us a diagram of your image train, or a picture of it? the way you used it when you say you saw the moon as a dot; I think that would clear up everything in a flash

the amount of reduction in focal length it takes to turn the moon into a dot is impossible to have with your native focal length and your camera

you say you "see", can you explain what you mean by that, what are you seeing through?

*** Sorry for the confusion, I'm not sure if you can see the photo I just sent, but the moon was in the 'little hole' as a small, unfocused dot.  ***

I think it's not the moon; the amount of focal length reduction required is impossible to have with the OP's native focal length; no reducer or field flattener or barlow would do that

*** I'm completely new to this so I hope this is what you mean. Had to make it small because of size limit20250202_180603.jpg ***

*** Correct. The 'moon' you are seeing is the view I get when I attach my camera to my barlow and telescope. That's not the sky, or the moon. I'm confused as to why it is showing only a small dot of light***

Can we see what is attached to the camera, if anything. I mean, just the camera not the barlow or the scope, just the camera and whatever else is screwed onto it?
