A couple of issues I've noticed with this mount so far. In becoming familiar with the controls through the ASI Air PLUS, I noticed that the mount will continue to slew as long as either RA or DEC button is pressed. I'm sure this is the case with the AM5 hand controller as well. In testing to determine if my set up will clear the tripod while slewing (I'm also using the optional extended), I've noticed there is no shut off or safeguard to stop the mount should my equipment come in contact with the tripod or pier. Also, I have found no options for setting slew limits. I didn't damage anything as I was watching it closely and stopped before contact occurred. Something to be aware of if doing an autorun. When mounting the ASI Air on the side of the AM5, make sure the USB ports are facing toward the front of the scope. Otherwise, the USB cables will be pinched between the stationary base and the RA assembly possibly damaging the cables or the ports on the ASI Air. Overall, very impressed with this! mount Patrick |

Patrick Graham: Since the mount has brakes to prevent backdriving, my intuition is it should be fairly easy for ZWO to add a safety feature to prevent pier collisions. That alone would put this ahead of almost any other mount in this price range. |

Hey All, Just ordered mine 2 days ago, should be here in a couple of days. I also ordered the ASIAIR Plus and the pier extension, which the extension is coming from ZWO so not sure when it will arrive. But I have a couple of scopes to use where the extension would not be required. ASKAR PHQ65 and my WO Z81 should both do ok, I think. For my other scopes, will definitely need the extension. Once I get the mount and have tested it out, I will report back my results and of course the likes/dislikes if any. Clear skies all and thank you for sharing your info. Regards, David J. |

Would you guys mind sharing your guiding settings when you get a chance? I love my AM5 and found a huge difference at least for me with a GT81, 2600MM, and a 7 EFW 36mm - set the tracking to .9 in the connection dialog pop up, and PHD2 works best in 1.5 or 2s exposures. If I changed either of those parameters to slower tracking or longer exposures, I just wasn't getting the level I was expecting from the mount. With those settings, I'm frequently surpassing my iOptron EC2 dual encoder mount. (in zero wind conditions only) |

Hey All, UPDATE: I am very pleased with the setup and use of the AM5 mount, now using it with my mini PC and N.I.N.A. I also have the pier extension which also helps. When I did use it with the ASIAIR Plus, it also worked great and as everyone else pointed out, it has exceeded my expectations for both use and setup. I am no longer using the ASIAIR Plus, just sold it as I was not happy with the WIFI usage. I now use my home network on the mini pc and can use any or all of my computers in the house, garage to control my setup using Remote Desktop Connection. More reliable and coverage is much better. Even using the extenders and all the reported tricks with ASIAIR Plus, the wifi was less than appropriate for my use. All in all, for the mount itself, I am really enjoying it and it's a breeze to setup and take down. Unplug 1 power cord and pick it up and move it into the house. Simple... |

I have had the AM5 for a few months now and I love it, I took it to Colorado to do on site imaging from a dark site. I took it as cabin baggage in the original case, fits nicely under the seat in front of me. Tripod in check in luggage. Had no issues with 300s subs with no counter weight on my AP92 setup. It is super easy to PA and works nicely with ASIAir too. Here are a couple of my image from it https://www.astrobin.com/t7ndfm/ https://www.astrobin.com/lzio47/ |
