I purposely bought a new TOA NS last year and let a 3,5“ Feathertouch to be installed. Very happy with it, no rotational play or strange stars using a full frame IMX455 with a 7x2” filter wheel and the 0,99 Flattner. Likely next week the more demanding reducer will be installed once it arrived in the observatory.

however, I only shoot with fixed rotation at 0° degree simply not to complicate remote operation even more.

However, if you into a rotator take a nitecrawler.

Thanks for the feedback. Why did you chose the Feathertouch over the NFB focuser?

I don't have any, but Ron from MoonLite likely does.

Found this video for installing the nightcrawler. Looks incredibly easy.  Not sure why Tak America freaked out about it.

Wir all respect to the craftsmanship and time the people at TAK invest making them run smooth but after experience with several TAK scopes I am simply not a fan of the focuser. Sure the NFB is likely the largest together with the FSQ106 focuser they produce but I simply didn’t want to risk buying a NFB and still have to upgrade it eventually at later stage.

however, you surely find also many folks absolutely fine with the NFB and maybe even 2,7” focuser same as you find folks absolutely happy with the stock focuser a of an epsilon whilst others getting grey hairs with it.

That's fair! I hear you my E160ED focuser was not great. That's why I was trying to get some feedback about the NFB focuser.

Yep that's all there is to it. Pretty simple.

I have the TOA130-NFB and also the 645 flattener. For autofocus I use the ZWO EAF.

ZWO offers a special part for the Tak, cost probabaly around 30 dollars or so.

I ended up purchasing a second hand TOA-130NS in like new condition. The price difference from new NFB is about the price for a Moonlight focuser, so I am going to go with getting the nightcraweler 3.5". I plan to pair this with the 645 flattner and a full frame sensor.

Any motorized flat panels that you recommend for it?

Update to this thread. I eventually went with a second hand TOA-130NS (about $5k) and moonlight WR35 focuser. I installed it yesterday. Be warned that grub screw that holds the focuser is very very small. You need a 0.9mm allen key to unscrew it. I had to get this kit:

Once that is backed out, taking off the OEM focuser and putting the moonlight on is a piece of cake.

Here is the moonlight NC vs the TOA.... it is a MASSIVE focuser.

Very rough assembly to start testing it:

First light with 2600mm just slapped on with no further adjustment:

Obviously 2600mm is a piece of cake for this. Waiting on my 50mm filters before testing full frame.

Try a 461 sensor. Should work great. 👍

Maybe will leave that as a future upgrade path!
