does anyone have any recommendations on how I should go about adding counterweights as I don't know what rod I should use and it's dimensions and I also don't know how heavy the counterweights should be and what model counterweights I should get, consider my setup weighs 3kg.

Hi.

The thread in the az gti is M12 so a piece of M12 threaded bar will work fine. Screwfix sell it. I used it in mine and clamped my counterweight in place with some M12 nuts and washers and it worked really well. My counterweight was 2.5 kg I think and that was fine for my 3.5kg rig.

they do pop up for sale 2nd hand on astro buy and sell from time to time if you want something more purpose made, but the threaded bar will get you going

I also use a threaded rod and I think my CW is 1kg ioptron one which I did use with a 60mm refractor for a while but mainly now use it with my camera lenses. It's given me excellent service. I saw a star adventurer GTI the other day and couldn't believe how flimsy the adjustments all were in comparison.

Hey, how did you manage to use a 3kg rig in eq mode? Also would you recommend using 1.6kg counterweights on the rod for my rig?

This is my small rig on my az gti. Scope, camera, filter wheel, guidescope, focusser and asiair all came in around 3.5kg. The az gti can handle payloads of up to 5kg so i was way within it's capacity. I was getting guiding accuracy of between 0.8 and 1.4 total rms which was better than my pixel scale so it all worked out well.
