Hello and welcome! I'd like to ask if anyone here is using PixInsight to process deep-sky objects. Is comet stacking or processing still possible in PixInsight? I currently have the PixInsight trial version. I'm wondering if we can still process comet images with the software. I assume there is a module that gives you the ability to process comet images, but I can't find it anywhere. Where is it? Do you need to download something to process comet images? I'm quite confused with PixInsight.

There is a comet alignment tool that you can use after stacking. The following video shows how to use it: VisibleDark - Updated 2023! Easy Comet Stacking in PixInsight. |

I just used the following method in Pixinsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCMyGNZlx5o&list=LL&index=4 Works great, even though my outcome is limited because of clouds. I could collected only limited data. See for yourself: https://www.astrobin.com/mzkcsh/ |

patrice_so: How do you process the images? Do u need to open all of the frames? I don't find anything in the software that allows stacking the images. |

If you have landscape in the image, you can use the Fame script from SetiAstro to freehand draw a mask to replace the blurred comet stack background with a sharp background stack background. Cheers, Scott |

Szijártó Áron:patrice_so: There is a very powerfull script for stacking in Pix : Weighted Batch PreProcessing. This will calibrate your subs, align them, normalize, etc etc and finally stack everything with many options, as always in Pix. Now this won't work for comets. For comets, I recommand to follow the steps of the first youtube link I posted. This is great. Finally, there is the process ImageIntegration for stacking. However, you need to calibrate, register, etc first. Hence using the script WBPP. |
