Sometimes you want to produce a version of your image with an arrow pointing to something of interest, perhaps a supernova, an asteroid, or an artefact that you would like help removing. You may also wish to add some free form text alongside to describe the object. Until now that is awkward to do in PixInsight and I tend to resort to loading the image into a different program to do this. So, I have put together this new script called DrawAnnotation. It has a preview facility and allows you to define an arrow and text and place these with mouse clicks. An illustration of the interface is included below. To get the script just add the following to your repository list: https://www.cosmicphotons.com/pi-scripts/drawannotation/. The script will install into the Script>Render menu. Please let me know any feedback or if you find any bugs. CS, Mike |

Elmiko: Access denied when I click on your link? You need to copy the link into your repositories list in PixInsight (Resources>Manage Repositories). Then click on check for updates in the resources menu and it should find the script. You then need to restart PixInsight to install.

As set up the repository requires PI versions 1.8.9-1. Are you on an earlier version? It will run OK on previous versions but I will need to tweak the repository to allow download.

Thanks Mike. I couldn't download Starnet 2 either. Maybe it's time to update PixInsight. It's just a PIA redownloading certain Scripts.

I am not running any pre-V1.8.9-1 Pi installations now so I have not actually tested it is working. Would you be kind enough to let me know if it works ok for you? Thanks.

Excellent, thanks for letting me know. The direction parameter rotates the arrow through the specified number of degrees!

It worked for me. Thanks! I had just downloaded a Paint.NET to do this for the M101 supernova, so this will come in super handy.

I have today released a new version of the DrawAnnotation script adding the ability to add a circle around your point of interest. This will be downloaded the next time you start up PixInsight provided you have the repository url: https://www.cosmicphotons.com/pi-scripts/drawannotation/ added to your repository list. Enjoy! CS, Mike

CS, Mike Mike: Thanks so much for building this script and updating it. I just downloaded it this morning and tested it out. Very nice! I've been hoping somebody would put something like this together from within PI. As a test, here's an unprocessed image I'm presently working on, luminance only. I understand that I would need to first convert a mono image to RGB, then I could annotate with colors. This sufficed for my first test of your script: |

Stig Is your image still in its linear, unstretched, state? I have made the assumption that annotation would be a final stage in image processing and hence images will be stretched - hence there is no STF facility within the script.

Hi,
I have it installed via the repository, but I am stuck at version 1.12 . I believe current version is 1.8?
Any idea what I can do to get it updated?
Have build 1612 of PI (June 2024).
/Sven
