Hello, I ordered a Scops with the goal to always have perfectly focused stars with my OAG when the filter changes. This is especially important for times of bad seeing, where the slightly defocused stars have low SNR to be guided on. I am guiding with Metaguide so guide star FWHM is really important. My question is does someone of you have the scops integrated in Nina with filter offsets? So when the filter changes to a new offset, the scops also adapts a new focus point to achieve perfect focus again? As far as I can tell NINA is only able to connect to one focuser per instance, which means you can use your EAF or the scops but not both. There may be workarounds with two instances and scripts but I could not find a guide or explanation. I am thinking about writing mini scripts that are executed on filter change which tell Unity's API to set the Scops to a specific focus point. However, I don't know if this will work. That's why ask in this thread if someone managed to get it working and might tell us how he or she did it. Appreciate the feedback CS Tobi |

Update on my part. Native support of filter offsets from Nina or ASCOM side is non-existing. Yes, you can select the Scops as a focuser and it acts like one but that's it. Thankfully NINA allows the use of external scripts in sequences which enables you to use specific focus points of the Scops and call them via the Unity API. This way you can do the regular filter change in the sequence and your scops adapts itself in the background. Next step: focusing the OAG to every filter I have (LRGBSHOIR), which will be much easier than with the downright bad focuser of my Indigo OAG……. |
