I'm pretty new here so, if I do NOT sound professional, you know why. Alright, I am having an issue with my wide-angle lens for my Nikon. It seems to have an effect on the stars when they get closer to the edges of the photo. They sometimes are either sideways v's or sideways capital T's. I'm guessing it's something to do with the lens, or just coma. Am I right? Is there anything I can do to either reduce or stop this effect from happening? Thanks.   |

Stop down the lens until the (largely) comatic blur disappears. From most Nikon lens that's usually from f/4 up.

 Milky way I too suffer from artifacts in corners. Len is Samyang 14mm, f2.8. It's there in prime focus on telescope too. I ignore it or crop it out. |

I agree with the 2 previous comments. I have a D5300 as well and these seagull-shaped stars is very common with fast lenses. They show up on my 70-200mm f/2.8 as well as my Roninon 10mm f/2.8. Stopping down to f/3.5 or f/4 solves the problem. However, seeing these artifacts in corners of short FL lenses is normal even with slower f ratios. |
