AstroShed: I must admit, I had my name down for one of these mounts, and then heard some things that did not Instill confidence in my decision, so I pulled out, and then thought i would wait for one of the new worm drive mounts they were building, the Minotaur, that was well over 18 months ago and they still have not released anything, I have not read anything anywhere that says that these GTR mounts are anything special, and other than weight capacity, on paper they don’t seem any better than a CEM70, except maybe the encoder versions, my issue is with the company and the poor communication that I got, and the lack of updates, I think that they are falling back into old habits and people are waiting for ever for there mounts, this happened to them a few years back and they got an awful rep because of it. I can tell you know I did just this - upgrade from a CEM70 to a P75 originally, almost 4 years ago now. I was the first in Australia to get a P75 and an early adopter of it. Yeah it took ages to get the mount but when I got it, it blew away all expectations... the courier (UPS) literally dropped the mount and it looked like they had played a game of football with the box! it ended up scuffing the paint on the mount and counterweights.. Mark said that was unacceptable and ended up organising a brand new replacement to me (which was now the GTR!). We decided to test out the P75 and to both of our astonishment it was absolutely perfect, no issues with tracking and it just worked albeit a bit scratched from the courier.. I continued using the P75 for the next year while the first GTR was built and it was just flawless... I gathererd hundreds of hours of data and uploaded to AB. I also opted to pay a bit more and get the 24 bit encoder version of the GTR, because why not
The GTR arrived in January 2024 and got plonked on my pier mount in my observatory and have been using it ever since without touching the mount at all - it is just that damn good.. I have 0.3" guiding with my 12" F4 Skywatcher Quattro (1200mm FL) and guide using OAG. Yes Mark had issues many many years ago but these have all been resolved - Mark has admitted over and over again (and constantly apologised) what what happened in the past. I've had zero issues with Mark, as have many other people. His discord support is fantastic - not sure how many other small companies do the amount of work that Mark does but can say now that it wouldn't be many.
Cheers, Mike
I remember when it all happened Mike, Mark was apoplectic with rage at UPS behind the scenes. Nice to know it all went well in the end At least the thread is back on track now...

andrea tasselli: I have been using OnStep for ages and I can't find anything particularly challenging with it. I have to agree also.. It's probably the best firmware/software ever build so far. The mounts now allow features such as Wireless and Bluetooth.. In Onstep we weere using that for ages without any flaw's. Just as an example.. And you can controll the mount in every way possible and the drivers are completly compatible with all types of computer's available. Plus one! Regards, Cesar

Here is a raw 300s unguided sub from my 10" Newt and GTR. This is without the 9 point model. I never run the mount unguided (outside of a single session for testing) but I think this speaks to the tracking performance of the mount. This isn't possible with any of the Sky-Watcher or iOptron mounts I own or have owned in the past. https://app.astrobin.com/i/aity1f#fullscreen |

Hey guys will it guide better than my SkyGuider Pro? I tried loading my CDK24 on it but the mount collapsed into a black hole. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

A GTR would have been my next mount but it is essentially wasted in my skies. Yet one day…

What about unguided with encoders?

OP here. Thank you all for responding. My apologies to inadvertently start a ****storm. I have to say comms have been very quick and sincerefrom JTW: ”=16pxGood afternoon Clint, You’re welcome 😊 We have space enough. Ah, I know which thread you are referring to. Yes, we sure did have a bumpy start, I remember those days all too well. I think we start to find our feet now, things run more as they should. The mounts did indeed come out great. The latest model, a lot of the improvements are internal but also there’s some cosmetic changes, please see attached. I’m very happy that you received a positive response so quickly! It’s great to have so many happy customers, we’re definitely blessed. We aren’t perfect but most people are very understanding and problems can be resolved, all’s well that ends well. This is our duty, although in this day and age it’s very easy to get dragged across the coals online so we have to be extra, extra careful to do our job properly. We use FedEx anyway to ship to the USA. UPS caused quite some problems in the past. Since we switched to FedEx and a 3rd party insurance company things have gone very well. Greetings Mark |

What about unguided with encoders? they do yeah as long as they are the 24 bit encoders - the 23 bit ones are used mainly for positioning rather than guiding. The GTR definitely seems to handle wind a bit better because of the encoders Cheers, Mike
