I am presently using a simple variable voltage power supply to control my Celestron dew ring on my SCT. Set to minimum, about 3.5V, it works pretty well through the night though just at dawn when the temperature rapidly shifts I often accumulate a little dew on the corrector so a couple hours before dawn I turn up the voltage to about 6V. I was thinking about getting the Celestron Smart DewHeater Controller to manage the dew ring through the night. However, I have been concerned about the stars developing streaking from the corrector becoming too warm. Some persons have reported issues with the Celestron Smart DewHeater Controller causing streaking due to poor power management, slightly overheating the corrector which leads to streaked stars. If you are using the Celestron Smart DewHeater Controller, I was wondering what your experience with it is. Do you find streaks in your stars since using it? |

I have the smart dew heater and yes if you have the heater set too high it will indeed produce little spikes on your stars. However, if you keep the temp set to around 15-20% I haven't had any issue. ~Scott |

I tried setting it on auto with different values from 5 down to 1. At 5 it almost always would streak, but when at 1 or 2 it was only occasionally (once or twice out of 10 times), but randomly so. Then about 6-8 months ago I just set it manually to 18% I think is where I have it right now, and haven't had any streaks since. Where I live we get a lot of dew all year round, so I use it all the time. ~Scott |
