When the skies are cloudy (like it's looking to be for the remainder of the year) and/or temps are a little too cold for comfort (next weeks warmest day will be a high of -11C), I will do one of a number of things I tend to find myself enjoying. This includes: Going out with friends, Hottubbing, Guitar, Video Games, watching movies, working on my car if applicable and if it's been long enough, and some days, get an early night's sleep. I work a 9-5 so any of this takes place usually after 6pm. Last night I got all my Christmas wrapping done while watching 22 Jump Street, and tonight's plan is to play Sea of Thieves with a couple of my friends. Lately I have been getting into more traditional photography, researching possible lenses for wildlife photography, nothing too crazy though. I also photographed my brothers Buhurt (or armored combat) meet this past Saturday. |

Andy Wray: Just wondered ...
For me, music and Formula 1 features quite highly so:
My wife and I attended an Adele concert in Hyde Park in London yesterday and
My daughter and I are going to the British F1 Grand Prix on Sunday ... she supports Max Verstappen and I am a Hamilton fan I compose and produce music. Recently finished my 12th symphony for my 17th album. I've scored for TV, games, animation, film, dance and many other projects. I also practice meditation daily, read a lot, and avoid all social media that isn't directly concerned with my particular interests. Also did photography for many years. Now, I study astrophotography and think up puns, such as: "I woke up this morning with the sudden urge to purchase Antarctica and the North Pole. My doctor said it's a common symptom of bi-polar disease". "Be very careful about contracting RSV virus. It's especially troublesome if you get it before you have to pee, because then you'll have to RSVP!"

Until retiring from the IT industry 15 years ago I really didn't have many hobbies. I worked. But now I have several of them. A few are, riding my motorcycles around the country, camping along the coasts so I can do a bit of saltwater fishing, scuba diving around the planet, a cruise or two per year, fly fishing in the hills of NC, Aussie Red wines, photography is integrated into each of these hobbies. I took up astrophotography 2 years ago because it looked technically challenging and I wanted a hobby like that - it never disappoints. Cheers!

I should have also said that just being a granddad ("Grumps") is also a great pasttime. I had the pleasure of taking my one and only graddaughter to swimming lessons the other day which was both tiring and really enjoyable.

I got into astrophotography a year or so ago. But when I'm not doing that I'm still working--my partner and I own a small boutique hotel in New Zealand, where I am also the chef--and I have long been an avid landscape photographer. And when I don't have the camera in front of my eyes I do a lot of cooking, and have dogs to play with and a new house we're working on building, and I like to read, and when possible I travel. But of course I no longer have the money for any of that because I got into astrophotography a year or so ago. Wow! New Zealand? That's one of the most gorgeous countries on Earth! Not to mention you have some of the darkest skies. Lucky you!!

I am retired and do a long of bird watching and wildlife photography during the day. On cloudy nights, I typically process my images and/or re-process with different techniques that I learn about. Plenty of little projects keeping me busy at home and lake house.

It's a phenomenal country, and we are spoiled with dark skies. Did I mention we're building a new house--complete with an observatory--in Bortle 2 skies on the Pacific coast?? ;-)

I hope you have many years of enjoyment with your new observatory and make some fantastic images of the southern hemisphere!

I try to remember all of the things I that I had planned get done around the house in 2019. That was the year when I dropped everything and started down the rabbit hole of astrophotography.

With my wife: birding and bird photography, travel, scuba diving, biking, hiking; we'll be getting a small travel trailer next year to get out of a tent On my own: seasonal sports–any kind of skiing, seniors hockey, road and mountain biking; Laser racing; fishing–fly only, tie my own flies and make rods from components; work on my pool and snooker game; involved with the local astro-community Retired from medicine four years ago and don't miss it for a minute, only the friends and colleagues I don't get to see as often. To quote a friend: retirement is highly under-rated!

I live in Scandinavia and due too bright nights during mid April to the end of August we take a break from astrophotography. So during this time I grow bonsai trees instead. Year around I go hiking with my wife (she’s a bird photographer😁).

Hats off to everyone for enjoying life! Like all work and family consume the majority of time followed by AP, outdoors biking and hiking, travel, any thing involving electronics! I’m basically a big kid that enjoys learning new things that involve overcoming challenges. The older I get the less dangerous my adventures have become but still provide the thrill of living life! Happy holidays to all!
