Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone here has experience with building a rooftop observation deck? I live in a tight subdivision with a small yard, and the tall trees around my area block much of the sky. Observing from the roof would open up the available sky quite a bit for me.

I have built an observatory on the roof of my garage and it works great. Not exactly what you are asking, a deck on the roof, but this is an option that I think would work better.  |

Do you folks not have any issues with vibrations or wind shake from your house? I have a stick built shop out back that I was really tempted to build into, but quickly ruled it out as it didn't seem like a stable platform.

I have a stick built shop out back that I was really tempted to build into, but quickly ruled it out as it didn't seem like a stable platform. No- not if built properly. My cement pier runs from 8 feet below ground level up 15 feet above ground to the observatory. Then a steel pier is on top of that from which my scopes are mounted. Besides having a well built cement pier, the key is then to make sure the observatory floor does not touch the pier. This avoids any issues from the house and I can easily walk around while imaging. You can go to my AB page and a few pics of the observatory.
