Hello everyone,

I've never printed any of my pictures before and I am about to, so I was wondering if some of you that experimented a bit with that could tell me if they rather go with a print on aluminium, or under acrylic.

Thank you

I've done some on aluminum and acrylic.  Unfortunately have not wanted to invest no the same photo on both, so take this with a grain of salt.  Then realize it is VERY subjective so an even bigger chunk of salt.   I used Bay Photo by the way, generally very happy with their work on any media I have tried.

I like aluminum better.  The acrylic gives a sense of depth and a very interesting look straight on, but I did not care of the look at an angle, the edges just look slightly odd and I think the brightness is attenuated a bit.  in fact overall the aluminum look brighter.  Detail is interesting - I think the aluminum process loses a bit of detail (vs the photo paper behind the acrylic) but overall the acrylic then softens it a bit so I would call it roughly a draw on detail.

You omitted one - canvas.  I want to do a large (say 3'x4' or so) canvas to compare. I think small will suffer from the texture's affect on detail, but large and viewed a bit further away, I wonder if it might come into its own.  I think Aluminum would still be better but in that size aluminum is very expensive and acrylic is ridiculously costly.  Would be curious if people have done larger prints on canvas and how it looked?
