Hello,

I intend to take a picture of some newly launched Starlink satellites, which trail accross the sky in a string-of-pearls formation.

I do not want a startrail picture, but a shot of the group of satellites (point of lights in a row).
I would use a DSLR and an f/1.8 lens - either 50mm or 135mm focal length.

Any advice on how to accomplish this?
Maximum exposure time?

I would use a "photo trap" setup on a tripod, pointing in the expected path of the satellite trail and use a remotely activated shutter.
Not sure if the satellites show up on my live view screen, however.
Starting point exposure-wise would be 0.5 seconds at f/1.8 and ISO1600 - not sure if that would be working OK.

As the satellites are gone again within a few seconds, there is not very much time for trial and error….

Your best bet is to make a movie @ 1/10s and use track and stack.
