Hi Folks,
a new collective amateur astrophotography project, called Overall Photons, was recently born, in order to share raw data on specific targets to reach hundreds or thousands of hours of integration.

After a preliminary optimization project of 260hrs on M101 galaxy (https://www.astrobin.com/m6oz01/) , we opened a call for the first project of Overall Photons on the Helix nebula.
We divided the project into two subprojects: 1.1 Widefield on the Helix nebula and 1.2 Narrowfield on the Helix nebula.
Here you can find the participation criteria and rules:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p7_mMKyyMu2u4h36aQ69EslrVeqv1REgt_kBJurQSNA/edit?usp=drive_link

I hope you find the Project interesting and that you will participate.

Clear skies,
Andrea

Awesome idea and no doubt should turn out epic like M101 did!!

How often do you plan on doing these?? I’d love to participate sometime as my setup just a tad too short for the helix nebula!! Is there anyway we can keep up with notifications on when the next project may start?!

Thank you very much. I think a project every 3 months or maybe 2. We will make an instagram and facebook page and share the news on the various astrophotography groups.
For now follow my personal IG profile: a_glimpse_of_universe.
See you soon!

I tried to do a similar project before, but I guess I didn't use the right wording, because everyone ignored me; I'm not interested anymore

but one question though

how do you stack master lights? I thought that that doesn't work to increase SNR. because if you average a lower SNR master light with a higher SNR master, then wouldn't that give out a stack that has less SNR than if you just used the higher SNR master on it's own?

I know there are other stacking methods than average though

I just would like to learn about how this is done

When staking data with different sampling resolutions, stacking with drizzling is the best option in my opinion
