Hi guy. So I've been driving away from home to darker skies (Bortle 3 and 4) to capture luminance data using the Astronomik L2 Uv/Ir Blocking Filter. I live under Bortle 7 skies. I'm just wondering if I will be able to capture luminance data under Bortle 7 skies or do you only capture luminance under dark skies? I've got about 6/7 hours already of luminance from dark skies and I need another 5-8 hours of luminance to add to my 14 hours Lpro I capture from Bortle 7. I also have some hours of Ha to add to that. Targets M81/82 with Rasa 8 and Zwo 183mc pro. Looking forward to your answers. Thanks

In my experience, it will be tough to get a good L channel, especially on difficult targets. I just finished an almost 9 hour run on Markarians; R, G, B we’re decent but L was so noisy/gradients that I went with a synthetic L. This is from my front yard in Bortle 5 with 2 street lamps and lots of front porch lights.

It isn't clear if you're using an OSC camera or a monochrome one. Either way, yes you'd be abe to capture luminance data from fairly light pulluted skies. Sure as the sky is blue I did.

You've got an OSC camera and as such you might only achieve true luminace exposure only in the near-IR, if ever. You're shooting color and as such you're not doing any "luminace" shooting, just color. And yes, you can do that in B7 skies, same as I do. |

Sorry I'm not really an expert in astrophotography 😂. I worded it all wrong. I should have just asked if I can use the Astronomik L2 uv/ir blocking filter under bright skies. So will be doing that tonight. Thanks for your help
