Hey there!

TL;DR: I have a Canon Rebel T7 and Apertura AD8 Dob Telescope and I've tried to take pictures of the Moon unsuccessfully because the Moon never gets focused.

These are the items I have:
  • Canon Rebel T7
  • T-ring for the camera
  • T-adapter for 1.25"
  • Apertura ED 2x Barlow lens
  • 35mm extension tube
  • 2" to 1.25" Adapter for Focuser

I took a few pictures with the following setups but I couldn't focus the moon properly:

Setup 1:
  • Canon Rebel T7
  • T-ring for the camera
  • T-adapter for 1.25"
  • Apertura ED 2x Barlow lens

The moon appeared zoomed in but adjusting the focus with the telescope didn't get the moon into focus, it was blurred while watching live view with the camera.

Setup 2:
  • Canon Rebel T7
  • T-ring for the camera
  • T-adapter for 1.25"
  • 35mm extension tube
  • 2" to 1.25" Adapter for Focuser

The moon didn't appeared as zoomed as in setup 1, and although it appeared to be a little more in focus it was still blurred.

Setup 3:
  • Canon Rebel T7
  • T-ring for the camera
  • Camera adapter for 1.25"
  • 2" to 1.25" Adapter for Focuser

Live view showed the moon was a little more focused but still blurred.

How can I get the moon in focus with my current equipment? Is that something possible or do I need something else?

You need a T-ring adapter to 2" extension tube. And you need to find where the focus is once the camera is attached to the scope which means you need to move it out (sliding) from its lowest position (nearest to the focuser) until you pass over the best focus position at which point you back off using the fine movement of the focuser one you clamp down on the thumbscrew. The T-ring adapter to 2" extension tub should be at least 100 mm long for this to work. Forget about the 2" to 1.25" adaptor and the barlow.

I think the problem is that I'm not hitting the focus position because the camera sensor is too far, meaning if I move away from the focuser I get more blurred pictures, and if I move closer I get better focus but still not enough; so I'm hitting an inward limit as I can't move the camera any more closer to get better focus. I even tried superposing the camera to the focuser without any attachment and even though I got better focus it was still blurred smile

I don't think a T-ring adapter to 2" extension tub will help in this situation, will it?

Thanks for the reply btw!

Not really, no, if the focus is too close that won't help. I have no idea if the focuser has a removable adapter such as M54 to 2" but I doubt it. One option is to move the primary forward but isn't for the faint of heart. The other one is to replace the existing focuser with a low profile one gaining enough in-focus travel to reach focus with camera.

If you go the "move the primary forward" route, you don't have to cut and re-drill the tube. I had to do it on my newt and using longer screws with a spacer works perfectly and it still allow you to return the scope to visual use later
