The simple answer is YES, they never really left. It was IDEX that didn't want to keep them in their line.

Bob is correct. FLI technically never left the amateur astronomy business but IDEX corp. didn't understand (and therefore didn't support) astronomy. The new owners of FLI are 100% committed to astronomy and the new FLI products will reveal this. The initial release of high quality cameras are in the 9mp, 26mp and 61mp range. A 100mp and 150mp camera will be released later this year.

Gregory,

Are the Aurora cameras out to venders yet, or do you need to get them from FLI direct.

@Gregory Terrance This is fantastic news, particularly hearing that the IMX 461 based cameras will be released later this year.

FLI cameras becoming available is a big deal. While the Moravian cameras have filled the gap for premium up to this point, the hobby needs a good made in the USA premium Astro camera again.

I also still have a PL16803 that could probably use some servicing. 😎

Send it in, I had them do a full clean room on mine. It's like new and you'll like the new fans they use; you almost can't hear them running.

We service all of these older cameras. In fact, if you have a failed as Sbig or Apogee camera, we can place those sensors into a brand new ProLine.

This is indeed VERY good news!  I've been hearing rumblings that these cameras were coming for so long that I'd almost given up on them.

Gregory,

Wonderful to see FLI is back in the astronomy business!  Any plans on the filter wheel side?  Will FLI be at NEAIC?

Preliminary details on the Aurora camera line are available on the FLI website. A modernized site is in development and expected to launch by March or April. We're also working on an impressive technical bot, set to debut later this year on the new website.

The initial Aurora release will include 9, 26, and 61 MP sensors, with 100 MP and 150 MP models to follow. The camera retains the familiar MicroLine form factor while incorporating new features, including models with different interface options. While no new filter wheels have been introduced, our proven CFW series remains available. Everything will run on our Pilot software.

FLI’s new owners are fast-moving, determined, and sharp—which is why I believe in them. A prime example: they relocated the company to a new facility in just five months, whereas the previous owners discussed it for five years. Stay tuned! :-)
