Christian Bennich:
@andrea tasselli - you have to hold your breath a bit longer
Something went wrong in my sequence - so no Skyflats this morning.

Will try again tomorrow morning.

These are light leaks and flat correction issues.
I can recommend you to wrap some cloth around the focuser or to cover it up ob some way, flock the tube if it isnt. Get a dew shield. Cover the back end of the tube with something.

And even with all of this, in heavy lightpollution you may still have issues. If you travel to a dark site, I reckon your issues will be gone (sorry to say, but Lp in this hobby really sucks).

Also make sure u take clean flats. They also shouldnt have lightleaks but iirc they are less sensitive to lightleaks.

Just did a 5 minute Lightframe in direct sunlight - to "document" that there are no lightleaks in the setup.

So I tried to move to a different target higher in the sky, to give myself a bit more time to work on it.

Did 5x300 seconds on M51 - and the raw Light frames came out much better. I did some "regular" Flat frames - 40% Histogram mean target.

This is the calibrated and stacked image

Not a hint of the shadow.

I then moved back to the Leo Triplet, did 5 images, used the same Flats and the result:

The same - not a hint of the shadow at all.

The only thing I changed today - was doing a bit of extra tucking on my "solution" to shade the gaps around my focuser tube.
This leads me to believe that previous issues must be attributed to the tiniest of light coming in along the sides of my diamond steel track 2" focuser.

I will do a bit more testing and reintroduce the light gap, when the clouds clear out again.

@andrea tasselli - I will wait with the sky flats until I have checked my assumption about the light gap first.

Great results. I thought you had the "sock" on your focuser but apparently not enough of it.
