yes, PI is worth it

just make sure to save your work after every process used, or at least after the ones that take up the most time (like Starnet, SXT, BXT, NXT), because PI crashes often, when I use it

In the real world this never happens.  You have a computer problem or something. Pixinsight does not crash for 99.9% of users.

In the 5 years I've been using pix it's crashed maybe twice. I use it on everything from an Intel NUC to my Gaming PC. No issues.

Nope, but most likely memory related or swapfile. Its only happened when I had too much going on. Swapfile probably couldn't handle it and dumped everything.

I got Pixinsight yesterday, processed my first M81 photo with it and already love it.
Before I used Siril, but Pixinsight is a completely different beast. Cuiv the lazy geek posted a nice tutorial on youtube a few days ago, that was really helpful.
I will probably never use more than a small fraction of what the software can do, but it actually really makes the workflow much easier in my opinion, because you can have lots lof files open at the same time, go back and forth, combine them on the fly etc.
Considering the price of the other equipment he price for the software is absolutely insignificant in my eyes.

Besides Pixinsight, I believe there is a plugin for Photoshop also.

There is for Noise X and Star X but not for BlurX....

There is a tool call Absolute Point of Focus or APF-R for Photoshop that functions similar to BlurX but it's not quite the same. It's good enough for NASA though, so it's good enough for me! 😂

I agree with those that say "yes it is worth it" 😀

Have had my copy a while and it beats everything at this time. It isn't easy to learn but not at all impossible but as this is a hobby where "hard but not impossible" is a common thing that is usually not a problem.

But remember that this doesn't do magic so the optics and electronics are still a limiting factor.
You may find Pixinsight useful if your only telescope is a Seestar S50 but I think in that case it isn't really worth it.

PixInsight is an absolute bargain in the scheme of things.   It is the most used piece of astrophotography kit I own when I think about it. I bought it a little over a year ago and never looked back. It is not hard to learn a basic workflow that produces good images from good data but with a little time and experience you can produce great images from good data and good images from okay data. I also love that it is once and done. I hate the subscription-based business model that is all the rage these days. Bottom line PI over delivers on the value for money proposition in my opinion.

I've never had PixInsight crash in the 2 years I've been using it.

The only thing I don't like about it is the curves editor.
I prefer using other software, such as Photoshop or Affinity Photo.
It gives you better control of the final output.

Do you konow the General Hyperbolic Stretch? To my opinion this is the most flexible way of stretching, much better then Histogram or Curve stretching.

I was in your exact shoes about 2 months ago and recently wrapped up my 45 day trial period. I made the purchase and I'm completely confident it was the right decision.

I've even been re-processing a lot of my older images in PI because they come out better.

I know it's more money, but I would also recommend BlurXTerminator with it. Makes a big difference. There are some free workarounds, but it's a complicated and tedious process without.

I do keep Photoshop on hand. But only use it for finishing touches with Adobe Camera Raw.

As someone has already mentioned, it's one of the best purchases I have made in terms of image quality improvement, up there with switching from modified DSLR to Astro Camera.  I too hesitated for some time switching from Siril (which as a free option is excellent).  I also went for the Free Trial but mistakenly spent my time trying to use the Pre-Process stacking element (WBPP), should have followed along with one of the many youtube videos to get to grips with the UI and processes.

It's not cheap but if you think of it like a piece of astro equipment with a one off cost of 300 and something that you will use ALL the time then the cost / benefit is as good as any mount, scope, lens or camera purchase.

Very similar experience here. Except I really didn't bother with the trial. I also got RC Astro's suite of Xterminators and they too are worth every penny. I reprocessed almost all of my images that I cared about because the difference was stunning. I use Affinity Photo for touch up stuff but I find I am using it less and less as I learn more and more about what PI can do.

I did finally try stacking in PI a bit and wow, I know this has been mentioned but holy hollyhocks, PX is slow at this task. something like 1.5 hrs to align and stack 238 3840x2160 frames. I can see that it has a lot more stacking options than I am used to but geez.

I tried the same software as most people and kept coming back to PI.  Yes it has a steep learning curve, but I like learning challenges so I didn't think that was a bad thing.  It costs more then others  and then I also purchased Adam Blocks Fundamental  series.  Books and YouTube videos helped, but I found Adam's videos and teaching methods to work the best for me.  I get better processed images and more flexibility with PI than the other programs.  Once you learn the basics of PI, it doesn't take long to do a quick process of an image to see what you have to work with.

Did you use FBPP? It is much faster than WBPP and for my needs I don't see a difference.

It was WBPP that took so long. I'll give FBPP a go…

PixInsight can be incredibly frustrating at times given its UX. The developers definitely made some… usability choices.

Nonetheless, it's still an incredible value - especially since it's not a subscription product. PixInsight is the closest you get to having the equivalent of a scalpel, whereas most other tools are hammers.

yes, every penny. I'm still very far from being proficient, but it's an amazing tool with lots of useful 3rd party scripts

Yes go for PixInsight and definitively buy the Warren Keller introductory volume and read it sequentially and carefully. Even if it is a bit outdated it is the best structured introduction to the product I found.
If you want state of art deconvolution and noise reduction, add Blur Exterminator and Noise Exterminator additional processes ($), they are worth the money.
Starnet 2 (free) or Star Exterminator ($) are extremely useful as well.

Have a look to HW requirements. A multi core PC is needed, and RAM is extremely important. In addition: the Exterminator SW is accelerated by Nvidia or Apple graphical card, the latter accessed automatically in Macbooks of adequate level (see Exterminator Russel Crowman site).
